What I mean by, keep it for spare parts, I mean, for the 'other old computer' we have.
It's a little newer than the 'dead' one. But if a piece of hardware fails, then I have a chance
of reusing something from this dead system.
heh yeah I'd definitely like to buy a new system. Maybe keep this system around for spare parts.
But I'll have to wait awhile on that if I choose to go that route.
Thanks Psychedelic Rhino. That's on the list of possibilities as well. And that's the thing. If it turns out, there are multiple problems: PSU, CPU, capacitors, motherboard, then it may not be a wise decision to replace all that. I could use a PSU tester to determine if it is faulty. I'd have to get...
Actually, there are 4. I google'd: motherboard capacitor. Found a pretty interesting Wikipedia page about this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague The symptoms, and things I did to get the computer going, are exactly what are described in the middle of the page. If I am going to take this...
Yeah I am worried about the PSU as well. I could get a PSU tester. But, the original symptoms point to the CPU/mobo: system freezes; reboots worked initially, turning up the fan speed kept it running awhile. Another person suggested that the heat transfer paste between the CPU and heat sink would ca...
Thanks GSH. I'll check the capacitors near the CPU. I don't know if it is worth the time, money, and effort to fix it. If it's a $10 job then it's probably worth it. But more than that, I don't think so. I used to upgrade and build our home systems but around the time SATA drives were coming around,...
Hey everyone. The PC my wife uses died a couple weeks ago, so I set her up with the 'later' one I built. This is the sequence of events. 1) System would freeze: disk light stayed on, screen was black. A system reboot would get it going again. This went on for several weeks. 2) System would freeze. A...
yep. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't there a lot of ranting about XP's problems
when it was first released? I suppose that is common. Same thing happened with
Win7. You never know what will pop up until the OS gets into the hands of millions of
users.
Some friends of mine also own zBrush. I am impressed with their work. But what's the price... $699 or something? Holy cow! Man... If I had $699 I'd pay some debt off! Would be great to get some car repairs off my back but anyway... there is also Sculptris, which is free, and very similar to z...
The plugin is for an app that is not used here; just felt like sharing the good news (it's good news to me, anyway :) ). I wrote an OBJ importer/exporter plugin in 2009. Some objects were imported 'inverted'. Turns out I needed to multiply the x-ordinate by -1 on import. I had to do the same on expo...
Exactly, Klink. :ugeek: Remember, do it for fun, for yourself. If others like it, that's a bonus. Don't stress over it! It's just a forum dude; it's supposed to be fun! As for other apps, Blender! I haven't checked in the past few weeks but the 'official gold' release of, what, 2.60? is on the way. ...
Ok. So, tell me if I am wrong about this, Klink. :) There is at least one working method that brings models from trueSpace into BZII. Is this correct? Do you have any problems with any models that you bring into BZII with this approach? If this approach works for you, and there are no others interes...
I don't see posting about BZII and trueSpace over at U3DA as being a problem, Klink. Just start a thread about it; it may very well be that you are the only one interested in BZII and tS. Which is fine. If you have a thread, and you post your thoughts, ideas, blogs, whatever, at least then, you have...
