Re: Halo 2: Anniversary art production talk
I just cannot see the economic sense of the pricing. The producers have nothing to gain from limiting the uptake of their technology, but they can (and almost certainly will) easily loose their market to competitors or indeed pirates. The more customers you have, the stronger your position, the eco...

Re: Market Research
Okay I'll bite. To me Action RTS is particularly appealing because it throws you into situations you normally wouldn't be able to have in a regular FPS while still retaining the strategy that I like about RTS. Instead of just the constant fighting of a pure FPS game you've got the buildup to the fig...

That's looking pretty solid, it looks like they know what they're doing. The game plays out perfectly and they've got the aesthetic in the game despite using mostly greybox geometry.AHadley wrote:Four minutes of unedited gameplay footage!

That was a great article, thanks for sharing. I love graphics programming so reading about upscaling is fun.

Re: So Coxxon, how have you spent 2015?
No wall of text this time, those recent screenshots look a hell of a lot better than the previous ones. There's a lot more definition to the buildings and units: even if it isn't as "detailed" as before and they look more like they're part of the environment. Still not sold on the Forge, b...

Re: So Coxxon, how have you spent 2015?
Bout time I weighed in: I don't like them very much. Post with some harsh but well-intentioned criticism incoming. The first thing that strikes me is that they look like they're being rendered at 100% brightness, even when they're not. It's particularly noticeable in the dark maps because it looks l...

I swear i saw this exact same thread a few months ago.
EDIT: Same company, same IP, different use of it. I jumped the gun with that a bit early.

Re: Bionite: Origins needs Support!
Aesthetics aside, even with the labels pointing to what everything is I have a very hard time telling at a glance what everything is meant to be. With HUD design (and interfaces in general) the golden rule is Keep It Simple Stupid. With something as critical as an in-game HUD you want people to inst...

Re: In The Shadows mod
You have to make a shortcut to the bzone.exe and then change its path to have -config (whatever the name of the cfg is) at the end of it, outside the quotes. Here's a picture of the one I use for Epic because I don't have this particular mod. http://i.imgur.com/odc5jzj.png -nointro is just to get in...

Re: XMOD Random Crashing
Sounds like it took offense to wire_xbpower.tga. The last time I tried to do anything with BZ2 it was very picky about not having RLE compression in its TGAs, but that was before the change to dxtbz2. I don't think it's a case of missing texture because it used to just draw a blank texture instead i...

So everything's playing out the way we told him it would. No surprises there. I enjoy seeing the world burn, so following this has been an endless source of amusement. Any game devs from Australia you know? A BZ gamer in particular comes to mind. Wot. That would be Jayden "JaydenBZ2" Hopk...

Re: So you want to be a game designer...
We're branching off from the main topic here, but Path of Exile's microtransaction model is great: cosmetics and stash tabs are available for real money, the game itself is entirely free and never tries to pressure you into paying for anything.
