Forum bans - readme if you want to avoid them

Postby GSH » Mon Aug 01, 2011 6:21 pm

After running these forums for a while now, there's two really fast ways to earn a ban around here:

1) Drive-by spamming for shoes/drugs/search engine "optimization"/other completely unrelated games. Doing this will earn you a permanent ban.

2) Excessive harsh language, i.e. a bunch of four-letter words in a row directed at others. This will earn you up to a few week temporary ban.

I pay the bills for this service, I moderate it, and I set the rules and tone for it. I don't put up with harsh language around me in person, and I don't put up with it here. You may be used to speaking or hearing such language in online games, but this is not one of those online games. There are a million other places to post content online if you feel cramped by the ban on such 4-letter words. Clear?

3) New users who have email addresses that look fishy will be run by stopforumspam.com. If the IP and/or username matches, the banhammer will be out. Also, if you are using an email address designed to avoid traceability, you're subject to banning as well.

4) Sockpuppetry -- multiple accounts for the same user is forbidden. There has been a recent case where one user was banned, and another user registered from the same IP, posting in the same threads, same attitudes and problems that got the first user banned. Not welcome here.

Due to the excessive amount of posters in the past few days who have ended up on the moderation queue, I've set it so that all new accounts must be approved by an admin before posting. I hope this is a temporary measure. If you do feel your account is languishing, my email is pretty clearly on my website.

As the forum rules state, there are a million other places to post online. If one of those suits your tempermant better, I encourage you to be there instead. That'll just save everyone time and trouble.

Just going to reiterate my points above that 1) sockpuppetry is still forbidden, and 2) all new users will be on the moderation queue by default. So, the usual BZ2 griefers trying to get around bans/moderation queues by registering again is a pretty pointless exercise. Stop bothering the BZ2 community, here or elsewhere. Thank you.
