3D printers

Post by Axeminister »

What do you guys think of all these new 3D printers that are showing up around the world. They're making 3D objects like toy soldiers with plastic on one, one uses sand to make complex 3D glass objects, another more advanced one you can buy for 14 thousand and it will make plastic parts for machines like clock wheels and etc. The whole thing reminds me of Battlezone where there is some pre-programmed software inside a machine (Recycler/Matriarch/3D printer) and as you feed it resources (glass, plastic etc.) it makes whatever the software says to make. I think pretty soon someone should make a machine that you just feed any kind of material into and it just makes whatever you want. Basically it would make a utopian society like on Star Trek where there is no need for money. Everything is made for you. Imagine setting up a Community Recycler into your community and everyone just line up and ask for what they need to survive. A library of everything. Your only contribution would be to make sure to help bring resources to the machine.
Why not? All books used to be on paper, now they're mostly all on the internet. Someone had to type it all up. Someone could type up a 3D model of every single object needed for man to survive. Like transportation vehicles, houses, lawnmowers, every single thing. A constructor could come to your land plot and and "print" out your home right into position. What do you think? I have had this thought of the library of everything for about ten years but never saw it being really possible. Now, it seems there could be a need. It sure would cut out a lot of waste in the world. People buying things that they don't need, letting them sit in their garage for years. Instead, any unused objects would be sent to the machine for recycling of materials, instead of spreading the waste around with garage sales. Creating less want would create less desire for war too.

Those aren't my inventions. If they were, I'd be posting from the Château Le Cagnard in the French Riveria instead of my 1958 12 foot single-wide. ;)

It's like Redbox, that burns the DVD for you on demand, so that it never runs out of stock.

OoOOOoo

Edit: Only applies to games, apparently.
