You're not familiar with dark ambient and glitch music, I take it? Such defects with equipment and recordings are often encouraged in modern recording studios, primarily in pop, light rock and electronica. (Electronica is one of those things where absolutely everything is fair game.)MrTwosheds wrote:Hmm, Some advice, drop the static/scratch effects, for those of us old enough to have experienced vinyl records and tape, it just says nasty, ruined and bad. Such defects with equipment and recordings were very common and unwelcome. Quite ok apart from that.

Porn is NOT art. It's more of a form of expression. Smelly expression at best.Zenophas wrote:However, I do not distribute my pornography publicly.

Yes I know, but its just like any technique used to artificially age something, by the time it is actually old it will just appear utterly fake. To me, such effects just make me want to eject the tape, or find another version without them...You're not familiar with dark ambient and glitch music, I take it? How come nobody ever uses the. "My tape player pulled 6 feet of tape out of the cassette and chewed it up real bad, then I wound it back in again" effect eh? Its because its horrible. Equally horrible is the "we recorded the horrible distortion caused by turning up the bass much too loud directly onto the original track" effect used by some.
Showing my age I guess, we always sought out the best sound quality, because it was difficult to not have these effects anyway.

Some think sh*t on a platter is art, others want nothing else but van Gogh...
Re: Akira's Complete Art Thread
It's not being used to age the recording in either case. In electronica it's simply another layer of sound (like I said, anything is fair game), and in pop and rock it's used to add warmth (as many listeners see it as too clean and clinical without. Hell, some sounds can't be reproduced exactly - like using a valve amplifier to get exactly the guitar tone you want, which I personally will never understand. I can also practically guarantee that any digital music you listen to will also have small levels of noise deliberately added as dithering.MrTwosheds wrote:Yes I know, but its just like any technique used to artificially age something, by the time it is actually old it will just appear utterly fake. I use noise more or less as a sort of equivalent to a metal interlude. I especially like it when it shoots the audio from side to side and cuts it out in some.MrTwosheds wrote:Yes I know, but its just like any technique used to artificially age something, by the time it is actually old it will just appear utterly fake. How do you actually listen to this Zeno, just as background music while you do stuff, or can you actually sit down and listen to this?

I really never put much thought into that, to be honest. Though, for myself, it's a combination of both.Red Spot wrote:It has some really nice bits and pieces in it, but it really isnt my cup of thea.

Actually, I'm gonna pull this one back and work on it more.

The start sounds like it's something straight out of Dark Side of Phobos or Delta-Q-Delta.

Yeah. Peaked at his JHM one, didn't get into it though. Invader Zim on the other hand, watched every episode. Took a bit of influence, i guess.Lilah wrote:*Feels inadequate due the mostly-music talk*

I've always drawn monstrs though. I used to make them more gory and messy when I was little. Was a nice release, for a while.
