Reconstructme

Post by Psychedelic Rhino »

Anyone interested in 3D modeling, but does not want to climb the learning curve, and has an XBox and Kinect lying around, can now grab most anything in the Kinect's 3D capture space.

Where this might be extremely useful is producing scaled replicas with 3D printers. The software produces a non-vector .stl, and will increase its accuracy with longer exposure times.

Very interesting exploit for a product designed for entertainment. . .

My firm has been looking at 3D mapping for existing undocumented metal structures for a few years now. The resolution above a 10 meter range for evaluation of connection detail is just not here yet, a least at reasonable price points.
