Wow. Definitely the end of an era... I wonder if this is when the rumoured windows 8 release date will emerge.
Re: Windows XP - no more support in under 1000 days
yep. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't there a lot of ranting about XP's problems
when it was first released? I suppose that is common. Same thing happened with
Win7. You never know what will pop up until the OS gets into the hands of millions of
users.

Sad, a classic operating system at lasts falls to the march of time.

Do you prefer guilluetine, firing squad, gallows, or lethal injection.

Re: Windows XP - no more support in under 1000 days
Hmm let me see, the number of times I used "support" while it was available = 0
Somehow I don't think its loss is going to trouble me too much. If it does Ill buy a Mac!

The 'support' that MS provides is this: security updates in case of griefers trying to take over your system remotely. I bet you'd be surprised how many times this has helped you. Without your knowledge. MS patches aren't like a commercial firewall that pops up a message saying "look, I kept that griefer out. Aren't I cute?" Instead, it's the silent doing of the right thing when bad data arrives.

Heh, 98SE hasn't given me any problems at all yet
(Then again, my laptop isn't connected to the internet)

I believe you can still get the updates and activate an XP system, they just won't provide more updates to fix any breaks.
Microsoft wants you to use Windows 7 (or Windows 8 when it comes out in late 2012 probably) which is the latest OS right now. Of course, you can use Linux if you wish, up to the person. I use Linux Mint Debian Edition myself and a couple Android systems (for those that don't know, yes, Android is based on a Linux kernel), and I've played around with various other distros.

I 'got into' linux a few years ago, downloaded about 30gb of distros, liked Mint and kubuntu, got lost with all the 'in-depth' console commands, and a little less than a year ago was going through LFS... it's alright, but I guess I'm just too lazy to get real deep into it...

I only recently got into Linux commandline, and I've still got a ways to go, but definitely learning as I go along. Its intimidating at first, but I think once you really get into it, its pretty powerful in its own right.
