Let me show you what you're thinking!

Post by Psychedelic Rhino »

In a mind numbing paper released this week, researchers at Berkeley have developed a method to graphically and dynamically digitize your thoughts. Truly groundbreaking.

Excellent.
The reconstruction was obtained using only each subject's brain activity and a library of 18 million seconds of random YouTube video that did not include the movies used as stimuli.
Finally a good reason for YouTube to exist! :)

Such a system at its current level of development should be usable for thinking of tones, such as to create music in one's head and then convert it into actual notes on paper.

But I suspect composers would have to spend an unhealthy amount of time being MRI scanned in order to get a decent tune composed that way. Seems like the hard way to do something some people can already do easily.

If they could clean up the imaging a bit, you could make movies from dreams...Ok you can all run away screaming now. What an awful idea.
Last nights dreams included waiting for someone outside an airport, then sneaking into a hospital through derelict undergound passageways and for some reason I ended up having 3 new eyes grafted on to my body, one in the middle of my forehead obviously, the other on the back of my left hand, could be useful I suppose, the 3rd was halfway up my right arm...which seemed a bit daft, I was a bit put out because I hadn't actually asked for them to do this to me and they didn't seem to work very well, apparently you need to exercise them, so I seem to have spent quite a bit of last nights dream time trying to see through eye's I don't have and upsetting people by blinking at them. I don't think it'll win any best director awards :)

Sounds like you'd come up with some pretty freaky films.

/me steals the sneaking into a hospital idea

Yeah, for the past few years I have been feeding my brain with a fairly constant diet of SF type literature, so my dreams tend to be a bit strange, they're allot more fun than when I was heavily into FPS games though :)
