Greatest Games Of All Time

Post by rice303 »

After seeing a post on gamerankings viewing the greatest PS games (Of all generations) of all time, I realized that even though game tastes are different, that there are a damn lot that many people can class as some of the greatest they've played, so this post, as you can probably guess, is to talk about some of the greatest games you've played and why they were/are so good, I'll start with some of my absolute favorite games (In no particular order)
1. Battlezone (Both 1 and 2)
2. Black
3. Max Payne series
4. Rayman 2
5. Half Life series
6. Binary Domian
7. Soldier Of Fortune II
8. Ratchet And Clank
9. Spryo: Year Of The Dragon
10. Tekken 3 and Tag Tournament 1
Just a side note of other games, Ridge Racer: Type 4, Dementium II, Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, SCP: Containment Breach and Battlefield 3

I haven't compiled a list, and I'm not going to because it would keep changing, but mine includes the Quake, Doom, Half-Life and Bioshock series, alongside of course all four PC-release BZ games. Dishonored is the newest addition; the atmosphere feels so much like Bioshock that they could almost have been part of the same series.

Most of mine would be older PC and Gamecube games.

Like Mechwarrior 3, Starseige:Tribes, Dark Reign II, Total Annihilation, Deadlock, Nightfire, Battalion Wars, Spiderman 2, SAB2, Paper Mario:TYD, Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart:DD, etc etc.

Been playing a lot of modded GTA IV lately though.

I must admit that the original Tribes were brilliant games, I've heard of Total Annihilation but never played it, much like System Shock 2, I'll get around to it one day

I've always been a fan of Fire Emblem, and the
'Empires' series - specifically the Samurai Warriors 2 one.
Also really liked Zork Grand Inquisitor, and Exile II was
one of the best shareware games I've played (Which is a
16 bit game -if not 8- so it won't run on newer Windows,
thusly, I play it on my Linux computer with Wine / best
part is that they released the game now, for free AND
I have the original graphic files)

Castle of the Winds(I think), another shareware game, very good.

But of course, I've been hooked to the Win98 classics, BZ2, DR2, and HG2.
Battlezone being, in my opinion, the best multiplayer game to date - although
it would be pretty interesting to see BZII with the multiplayer capacity of say,
Planetside 2. It'd be pretty taxing as well.

I play freecell too.

I would say:

Battlezone II
Deus Ex
Descent (series)
Star Ocean: The Second Story
Timesplitters
Ace Combat (series)
Armored Core (series, mostly the earlier releases which i've actually played)
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
Romance of the Three Kingdoms (series)
Company of Heroes Online (sadly, no longer playable due to being a defunct MMO)
Regulators
Regulate any stealin' of this biometal pool, we're damn good, too
But you can't be any geek off the street

I remember in Starlancer it always made me laugh when I messed up and the Captain of the ship I was from would scold me, spin around in his chair and tell me how much of a hindrance I was. If you really messed up you would wake up in a dark room and a shadowy figure would open the door with a giant crescent wrench in his hand and then it was lights out.

Don't have a nice full list, just an in place ramble, but (unordered):
Battlezone II (As the last of the true hybrid RTS-FPS genera)
Minecraft (As the best sandbox game ever made with both simplicity and complexity well layered, heavily modded)
Garrysmod (The previous best sandbox game ever made. When I play, I make massive drone nets in space.)
Ace Combat (The best arcade plane action + and amazing world that while not far from our own offers some amazing scifi creations. I have played AC4, AC5, AC0, and AC6, AC:AH looks pretty dreadful though in context of the prior.)
Armored Core (A game truly about customization and playing your way, I have played AC, AC:MoA, AC:PP, AC2, AC2:AA, AC3, AC3:SL, AC:N, AC:9B, AC:LR, never AC4 or AC:FF sadly.)
Red Alert 2 (The first RTS I really got into playing, though I started my modding back in Dark Reign and never really modded RA, it was still a wonderful game with lots of variety, especially in its expansion. Had I gotten more into Star Craft, that would probably be in this spot instead.)
Spiral Knights (A fun mix-up between Diablo, The Legend of Zelda, and Bomberman; this game has a wonderful art style. Big changes with its monetization model recently occurred so if you shied away from it before, take another look.)
Star Tropics II (An NES game I got a lot of play time in, not sure why, but its probably the one I liked the most of the NES games I have.)

I just finished the new Deux Ex and also believe that deserves a spot, there's been so many good games this past year that it's hard to keep up

Are you talking about Human Revolution? -- Also, have you ever played the original Deus Ex? (Its old but now theres modpacks that improve its textures and add shader effects)

Was looking for something else, but stumbled upon an old 'X-box' game. Since I didnt play it any more (sold the X-box loooong ago) I forgat about it, but this game is pretty cool and released on X-box, PS2 and PC.

Wiki page

Played the first missions again, and the game is still as unforgiving for the random gunslinger as it used to be .. love it :)
