Megaman Legends 3 (Jap and Eng)

Post by Psyringe »

After my departure from the Bionite: Origins team I began research and development into a handful of genres and styles I wanted to follow as a developer myself. Megaman Legends, also known as Rockman Dash, fit a personal bill and I started collecting reference materials. Keep in mind this was a few months ago, and some stories have developed since - and I hope you find them equally as interesting, even though unrelated...

For starters, the Fan Made development was never abandoned. While a Megaman Legends 3 (for 3DS) was abandoned in 2011, fans still continued to work towards a functioning solution. An advertisement for this game can be found here:

Promotion of this development in English Speaking Nations is minimal. Additionally, leaks occurred (potentially on purpose) that allowed Rockman Dash 3 Models (Megaman Legends 3) to be downloaded straight from the Official Website - allowing this dev team to get direct "hands-on" with the in-game models of the unreleased title, retaining the full quality of the new characters. No legal repercussion has been mentioned anywhere since the leak - and the models can be found on some unscrupulous 3rd party distributor platforms (Please Credit Your Designers). The direct download from the Website is a misplaced forum reference (SRC. NEEDED).

Another company, Comcept, was crushed by the loss the 2011 development rushed to start producing a "knockoff" of Megaman Legends called Mighty No. 9. It was funded on Kickstarter for 3,845,170 October 1st, 2013. Even though slightly short, Comcept awarded the 4,000,000 Perk "Online Battle Race Mode". The title is due to release sometime next year.

While it doesn't follow the same fundamentals as Megaman Legends (and more like a modern Megaman X) - it's still exciting to see indi dev companies trying to spiritually revive classics that we grew up and loved.

That's all the love I have to offer for the 3rd Party Megaman Developers at the moment - but I'd love to scope out other sources. What have I missed?

With the new year approaching I may make a new forum account dedicated to game news, anticipating the launch of INCISION GAMES early 2015 (check the sig.). If you dig the taste and direction - we do gaming news as a hobby and would love to hear your opinions or even accept credited contributions.

I heard about Mighty No.9. Isn't it a brain child of the Mega Man creator (not Dr. Light, but rather some japanese dude). Do you recall why he broke off from Capcom to make his own game?
