Why videogames release in Oct-Dec

Post by GSH »

Take a look at the chart at the bottom of here. Breakouts of annual sales by month.

Is this a chicken and the egg? Quite possibly -- sales are higher in those months, so the AAA games try and release then. It's the second and third tier games that could benefit from being well away from that. But, nobody sets out to deliberately make a second or third tier game.

And any other international -november/december/year end- holidays.
We just welcomed Santa Claus(Sinterklaas » St Klaas) here last weekend (we call the other guy the Christmasman, literally translated), who will be celebrating his birthday on the 5th of dec in the Netherlands and on the 6th in Belgium. The day before that is was 11-11, wich is St Maarten, which you could see as a sort of Halloween in that kids go round the door collecting candy (here they sing a song about St Maarten in order to get it though :)).

Either way, it all goes together with some investment. These months are not particularly cheap :D
