Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
Hey y'all.
Recently a new version of Gimp, namely 2.8, was released. I had the beta, so it didn't change much for me, but it's very good. I like the one window mode.

Also, a great new addon for Blender 2.6 (not that Blender is particularly popular here) called Bsurfaces was released. It allows one to draw surfaces much more ergonomically, and greatly speeds up the Retoplogy process for sculpts and such.

P.S. To anyone who has not tried Blender, or tried it a while ago, I encourage you to try the latest version. It's made big strides to becoming the professional suite it aims to be. http://www.blender.org/development/rele ... ender-263/ Especially note the new Cycles renderer.

Also, the voice in the Bsurface video is by Jonathan Cooke. What a coincidence!
Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
I'm still using Blender 2.49 only because I'm used to the layout and I know quickly where everything I need is. I'm going to just have to bite the bullet and start getting used to the newer versions I suppose though.
Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
Oh, absolutely. The latest version of Blender is enormously better than 2.49.
It has an ocean generator, a cloud generator, a smoke simulator, bmesh which allows ngons, the cycles engine, more modifiers, and lots of other new stuff.
Here's the release log for the latest version, and all the versions back to 2.49: http://www.blender.org/development/rele ... ender-263/

Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
Yea it has some nice stuff in the newer version no doubt about that, it was just the change of layout and shortcut keys that bugged me.
Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
The interface is still very buggy. Better off sticking with an earlier version for BZII. I tried the latest version and the UI disappears when trying to navigate the software.Dianoga wrote:Yea it has some nice stuff in the newer version no doubt about that, it was just the change of layout and shortcut keys that bugged me.
Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
I don't know what version you tested, but it certainly never did that for me.
Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
Yea I've never had that problem with any version either. It's just learning all the new shortcut buttons which is annoying. I was playing around with it last night and started changing all the buttons around to be closer to what I'm used to.
Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
I think it was version 2.6 if I'm not mistaken....I've read quite a few posts from other people about the UI in general...many consider it pretty odd compared to most other modeling software. I tend agree and found the modeling tools a bit like navigating a obscure maze. I'm still looking at it, but find other software is easier to get stuff done much quicker. If it works okay for you mo powa to ya bubba....Clavin12 wrote:I don't know what version you tested, but it certainly never did that for me.
Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
It's relative. Other modeling tools seem maze-like to me after using Blender. It's a first language type thing.
Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
Yea it is alot of personal preference. I tried using 3dmax years ago before Blender and just couldn't grasp it at the time. I tried out Blender and picked it up quite fast. I can do some things in 3dmax now but still haven't really taken the time to really dive right into it when Blender can do so much for me anyways.
Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
I'd use Blender too except for reasons similar to to the one given for MAX. Each to his own I guess...whatever gets it done the easiest is the way to go....Dianoga wrote:Yea it is alot of personal preference. Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
I've tried blender so many times, and still to this day, it boggles my mind. I cannot seem to grasp it. 3ds max? Day 1 I was making stuff happen. I even tried it after first trying blender. Oh well, guess it's how ur brain works and all...
Re: Gimp 2.8 released and a new addon for Blender
I must be a glutten for punishment as I keep track of new Blender releases and give each a try, but the UI always scares me off. I mostly use the ones I can comprehend, unfortunately, I'm a bit of a simpleton at heart....
