I like what he has done, models and all, but ti just feels off for me for what the ISDF/EDF are and I can't explain why.General BlackDragon wrote:I still vote you just make better textures that everyone can play with, with or without them installed.

Realism shouldn't be a concern, ships in Battlezone II can strafe, backpedal, and jump sans-directional thrusters.bigbadbogie wrote:for the sake of realism.
As a commonly discussed thing, I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't be too comfortable with the reshaping of ships, redesigning of buildings, and reshaping of the maps, and whatever else you decide to change.
I'd rather you just make higher-poly count models, and maybe added some benign details to ships, and re-textured with higher resolutions and more detailed and more clear and precise designs, rather than remodel and redesign the craft and buildings. I can already imagine you redesigning buildings and fundamentally changing their shapes and therefore hit-boxes, and redesigning ships to include realistic and/or large antennas, thrusters, and other parts therefore requiring larger hit-spheres.
In summary. Your HD remake I'd suggest should resemble that of other games and such. Increase the quality, not change the factory to make it look more like a factory.

Don't worry PH, I'm keeping close to the original shapes. I want it all to remain obviously similar to the original game in design. Look at the ModDB page header and you'll get an idea of approximately how different it will be to the original.
Maps won't be edited. Only their textures and props will be redone.
The point of this is to make you feel like you are playing the original game with better graphics.

Re: Big announcement: Battlezone 2 HD Mod.
I'm glad to hear this, and while I haven't played (For an example only) Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition I had watched a short part of it. *IF* I recall correctly when you switched between the two graphical engines there were then rendered rocks and such that were not there previously; which is to say the terrain itself changed (eg. as before a rock that was not there before was placed there after the switch).
This would be an example of what I don't appreciate out of mods like this, which is for me to say I'd prefer if you tried to keep this mod as close to a literal HD-Redux of Battlezone II and not change any fundamentals of the game, such as changing the shape of the Factory or ships. While I can't speak for the Team Strategy community I can assume that if something were changed that might affect game-play in anyway whatsoever, the mod would not be used among these players. Simply put: a change that would affect game-play would break the barrier for a lot of players, and I'm not necessarily talking about Strat players. People have become comfortable with the game they play.
All the early criticisms aside, I'd appreciate such a mod to be released, and would look forward to seeing more content.

And if it's not asset compatible 80% of people wont' use it.bigbadbogie wrote:Maps won't be edited. Only their textures and props will be redone.

Not saying he shouldnt do that, but I would advice to keep models and 'pictures' in seperate packages. I dont think we need an other mod that few play and just creates more disruption in the community.Purplehaze wrote:I'd rather you just make higher-poly count models

That would make the whole project infinitely more complicated.

Re: Big announcement: Battlezone 2 HD Mod.
How so? Cant you give the newer models a different named texture?
Effectivly making it so the 'picture package' would only be used for those items that do not receive a new model in the 'models package'?
The pictures are easy enough on the game it should be usefull for pretty much every player and as it doesnt cause bad assets its nice to include without fear of excluding players that arent as forum-happy as most of us.
The models would be a bonus that does require you to realise you likelly make you game less populair even if its just cause those playing on 9 year old and older PCs cant follow.
Why not have the graphical umpfh provided by the pictures cause you dont want to use the models (atm) cause you dont want to exclude certain players?
(Dont get me wrong though, my preference » überhigh poly models with massive textures, screw those with lesser system, they should have just gotten a (better) job

Well your saying he should make 2 entirely new texture sets, one that just happens to fit UV maps he has no control over.
He's making new models with new textures and new UV maps, making them work with the stock models as well is just not a viable course of action.

it is if he bases the uvmap off the stock texture layout.

Which is unlikely, the beta assets show that the only reason such at times crappy UVs exist is because they mapped to nicer bigger textures then forced it to fit on the small square that was allotted.General BlackDragon wrote:it is if he bases the uvmap off the stock texture layout.

Which he won't, because that would make things infinitely more complicated, he would have to create all his textures based on a geometry he does not have and is not going to use.it is if he bases the uvmap off the stock texture layout.
