Is this one for any particular versions of 3dsMax?

I tried to avoid any special functions, so, hopefully it will work for you.

Allows you to make Scion style "morph" animations. The kind where the verts in the model physically move, so the model "bends" instead of simple rotating/translating.

In BZ2, this type of animation is used by the pilots, the scion vehicle morph animations, and the scion recycler deploy animation.
