A few questions

Post by ssuser »

Been looking through the new stuff in the 1.3 patch pak, and there are a lot of new goodies from my POV - coming back from early patches. My hat is off to those who worked on the new models, in particular the Heavy Artillery Tank, Rocket Tower, and Sabre variants are just awesome, thanks for making these.

First, I was wondering if there is a way to make the assault bay into a separate forward outpost-type building. I know buildRequire can be used to make it a standalone like a relay bunker, But I want to set the limit to 2 of this building type, one main ibsbay at the base and one more assault bay for field deployment. Can I do this via stuff in the odf, or will I have to make a modded Service Bay as well and derive the Assault Bay from that? (I could use a pointer to a good bz2 odf tutorial if anyone has one)

Also, I was wondering what the submarines are for: cute but do they have any other purpose? There is also a "Gunship" remarked upon in the credit.txt for the new units. Don't see a gunship, what is it?

The Comm Vehicle: I was under the impression after reading thru the changelogs by GSH and Ken that this would allow Relay Bunker view somehow, but both these units just have site cams in them and a long radar range, is this all they do, or am I doing something wrong as far as using them?

Finally, a non 1.3 related question: where are the lava worms for Rend? There are files and a nice PIC of a fanged critter under the Rend folder, but I have never seen any swimming in the lava, were these left out for a specific reason?

I've always thought the assault bay made an ideal forward base unit, but that functionality might be better saved for a further recycler variant. I might make one to such a purpose myself if I ever get around to finishing my existing projects.

The "gunship" would be a Scion unit in one of the Greenheart variants somewhere. It's pretty much flying version Burns' emissary vehicle with a Titan turret slapped on the bottom.

If you press the deploy/morph key (default C) in the command vehicle, it deploys and bumps you into satellite view.

The lava worms were removed, as with a lot of content intended for BZ2, primarily due to Activision's pushier outlook on game publishing. Ideas for projects to re-include all of this content and attempt to expand the game have been thrown about, but nothing ever left the starting gate. If anyone does so, I hope they notify me so I can help :P

I first thought that the Assault Bay was a service bay you could deploy in the field , but nope it took me ages to figure out what it actually did and I was disappointed.

I want it as a forward field bay as well, from what I can tell you would have to first do a variant on the Service Bay, use the LimitClass set to 2 for all types of this (a la the rocket tower variants I saw), then use buildRequire = "N" to allow it as a standalone in the field, maybe with a lower resupply rate as well. I am looking at options for pure IA maps here, so I don't intend this as a building that would interfere with strat.

AHadley, thanks for the deploy info on the Comm Vehicle, I will try that (I keep forgetting the "C" key does things in bz2). I already found the "Gunship" then, the unit labelled "Burns Fighter".

Too bad about the lava worms, they look nice and vicious. Though, if they can't surge out of the lava like crocs, you would already be dead and crispy before they got to you since you'd have to fall in to be eaten.

I would love to see a "submarine" class, imagine playing on a bane map with really big lakes and having one surface 150 yards out and start bombarding your base with arcing rocket bombs...

That's Aronnax, one of the worlds from CP2. The tunnels are mostly placeholders.
