Old Pluto base buildings

Post by XxHAMADEHxX »

I just wanted to know if the old Pluto base building models from the movie existed somewhere.
And if they did exsist would it be possible to get them?

Thanks =D

The BZ2 opening move (in bink .bik format) was created outside of Pandemic Studios. Memory says it was done by Soft|Image as a demonstration of that program -- Pandemic and BZ2 was one of the first adopters of that software. We have none of the files used to create that movie, otherwise a higher quality one (e.g. 512x512 or 1024x1024) would really improve the quality of that opening movie on modern systems. BZ2 used 256x256 textures & bink files because that's the largest that 3DFx Voodoo 1 graphics cards could handle.

I have an archive of old assets from development which includes some higher-resolution textures, renders and a lot of files which are, as far as Nielk and I can gather, unusable with modern software.

I can confirm it was Softimage|3D, though that might have also been called Soft|Image at the specific version in question.
There are major issues upconverting the scenes to Softimage|XSI and even when I tried to get them to work (and I've presently lost the ability) the best I could manage was the rare scene with issues such as the Dark Planet having no texture, just a black ball with atmospheric shine.

I did procure a copy of Softimage|3D that could work, but it requires a special type of computer that I don't have.

From my earlier successes however I do have a pile of XSIs (some broken, some ok, some unloadable that might still have good data hidden inside) of beta and movie assets.

Alright and thanks guys =)

I was rebuilding the Cerberus base just to see what it would look like and if me or someone else wanted to make a mission with it.
So far only 3 dumb down versions of the buildings(excluding the comm center which looks nice) exist inside the game.

I've always thought of doing that myself, only I would have gave it different looking builds but keeping similar design. I noticed there was a couple differences between the Intro attack and both the scout outpost and Cerberus base

Ya its kinda weird. I actually had to take a screen from the intro movie because of that.
If you want I can give you my setup. =D
