High-Poly Proxy Mine - Animated!

Post by TheJamsh »

I'm also re-doing mines for Serenesis, and instead of being 'planted' directly on the ground they are going to realistically be dropped from craft. When they land they should line up nicely with the actual mine itself.

I've re-designed them to work a bit better. This is the proxy mine, it first lifts itself up on its legs, drills into the ground and then uses the clamps to force itself into the terrain. Once this is over the mine sits under the terrain. Small parts of the mine still protrude so that enemy craft can see them, but aside from that they are totally un-detectable.

Depending on how good they are, I may make them emit a light and a small beep once in a while, nothing fancy though to give them away.

See the animation here (all hand animated by me :)). Might still be processing.

What kind of video takes almost two and a half hours to process? How long is this beast?

Love it. Like the drill effect.

Looks "way" too high poly for a mine. Especially the lobe and the drill.

That model is only temporary, it doesn't stay like that. (mines don't animate)

The actual mine sitting on the ground is likely just the top parts sticking out of ground.

The original plan was to animate the mine via the new flags that were added. If those don't work, then as you say, it will have to be a building first then a mine.

it works, quite nicely too! Do need to adjust the animation though, its totally weightless at the moment.
