BF2: New, Hello ;-) Install, Summary, Mods, etc.

Post by higherbeats »

Hello Guys...

I am new to the forum, I own the game since so many years, I love BZ1 & 2 ... but since windows got older, gamers got less...
I would be very glad, if you just give me some quick update. (don't do the work for me, i know, i can read the forum(s) and google, but to have a dialogue is more efficient ....)

short and quick answers would be enough for me...

what
mod (communityrelease) is best, newest, still under development (support) ?
for multi player with a friend, i need 2 originals, or the demo right? or is there some abandone ware or free release meanwhile?

any links, tools, you advise? ( I should use gamespy to find servers?)

thank you in advance

For mods, see this thread.

Multiplayer is generally on either 1.2 or 1.3PB6.2. I haven't seen games in anything else in a very long time.

If you want the game, you'll have to go buy it; anything else is piracy.

I do own an original copy of the game box and CD and serial!

but I am asking to get upToDate, and I am on Win7 now, and i also want to get some friends activated to the "old" game ;-)

Install cd to it's own folder, then patch to 1.3.6.2 from here :
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=688
That is the latest updated patch.

A fun mod to play right now is G66, found here:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6
you'll have make a special shortcut to play it that links to the G66 cfg file, pm me if needed.

Have fun, and join me and my wife in a G66 mpi soon.

If you're using a 64-bit OS, install from D:/setup/setup.exe.

What type of mods are you looking for?
If you want to play with your friend vs the AI, than G66 (see Axe's post)is rather brutal (I mean that as a good thing). You could also try FE, however I cant say how well that currently works in an MP environment. You can find a link to it in the modding section of this forum, and you'd be wise to read the first post thoroughly.

If you like to play vs your friend, you could try VSR (over at bz2maps.us), but it doesnt add things. Its mostly interesting for its effort in making hover physics behave more like in 1.2.
