BZ2 Feature Request: Formation Fighting

Post by bornlibra23 »

Is it possible to introduce formations in BZ2 just like Age Of Empires? It would add a new dimension in fighting capabilities particularly dog fights & ambushes.

Sounds cool
But I think it would just make trouble for GSH. Units act funky sometimes even the way they are now.

The game's nature doesn't really support it. The best you could expect is a classic 4 ship diamond but that would also be a right pain. A mod might fake it at some point with clever mission scripting but unit physics and ai control are too fidgety to really do it and net stability and simpler feature requests are better suited than this.

Sorry, not going to happen anytime soon. BZ2 doesn't even seem to have consistently good pathing for one unit, let alone a formation.

using collisionRadius = 10.0 seems to work relatively good for keeping units to space themselves out, but other then that, not much you can do.

I've once tried setting 2-3 paths near each other to see if I could get multiple units to attack at the same time instead of dripping in. Works for heavy and slow units, but there are other methods that dont require creating paths all over a map. And it doesnt work for lighter units because of inconsistant pathing.
