BZ2Maps Game Listing Service is Online!

Post by Zero Angel »

I would like to announce that we at bz2maps (Kebbz and I) have developed a service which allows you to quickly check if there are any games up. It has the following features.
  • Displays list of games that are currently listed on Raknet
  • Displays BZ2 version and mods in use
  • Can tell you if raknet is currently offline
  • Allows games to be listed by the bz2maps service in the case of a raknet outage.
  • Allows the immediate hosting and joining of games via bz2game links if the protocol handler is installed.
  • Games hosted with the bz2maps service are automatically listed on raknet.
  • Automatically fills in your forum name when directly hosting or joining.
  • Will automatically refresh every 60 seconds.
To use it

Simply navigate to http://bz2maps.us and click on the 'active multiplayer games' list to show.

About the protocol handler

This is an optional install component of the VSR mod. It will allow you to directly host and join games using your web browser. Once it's installed, you will be able to use it, even if you don't use the VSR mod.

Bugs

Sometimes (not very often) the listing will show raknet as being down when its not. Usually refreshing the gamelist once will fix that.

If you don't have the protocol handler installed, and click on the host button, it still lists a game by Anonymous, unknown, unknown and your Ip address. Even though there is no game.

I wanted to keep my eyes out for 'edge cases', where someone cant normally list games on raknet for whatever reason (antivirus, bad nat, etc), they would be able to do so through that service. For now, games listed via the host button will automatically unlist themselves after an hour, and moderators/admins on the bz2maps forum can delete bad listings from the 'bz2maps' provider when viewing the list.

Kebbz and I will probably modify the script later on to hide all games hosted via the host button when raknet is online, and show them only when raknet is offline. It depends on whether or not people put up enough bad listings for it to be a bother.

A mini-popup version of the game list is available. To use it, rightclick on your 'bookmark bar' (if present), Click on 'New Bookmark' and paste this text into the URL field:

Code: Select all

javascript:void(window.open('http://bz2maps.us/phpBB/gamelistmini.php',%20null,%20'width=670,height=250,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,location=no,scrollbars=yes,status=no,menubar=no'));
You can type in 'Mini Game List' into the 'Name' field if you want. Click 'save', and you should be able to view games that are up no matter what website you are on. The mini-gamelist will refresh itself periodically (once a minute) if javascript is enabled on your browser.

I've only tested the functionality on Firefox, so if it doesnt work on your browser then let me know.
