Don't be, there are plans. Though they were never designed to be implemented this soon. I hope QR2 comes back to BZ2 soon.

Not sure how long the outage will last, but the strat community is using various fallback methods
  • Notifications of games up and IPs to connect to them, via realtime chat and teamspeak
  • Using QR1 versions of BZ2 in the meantime (1.3 PB5, or 1.2)
So we're fairly resilient and organized as far as being able to arrange games is concerned. The MPI players, if they want additional players in their games should use similar methods, such as using bzscrap TS3 to arrange games and such.

Some of the strat guys are saying that BZ2 should go back to QR1 since the game lists under QR1 tend to be updated more freqently anyways, but I too am hoping that QR2 can be fixed just because of natneg.

Why not set up our own server? Cant be that much bandwidth for the usual handful of open games.

BZ2's networking code isn't built that way. It works with BZ1, but look how that turned out.

GameSpy was supposed to allow us to avoid all the issues intrinsic to a listing server under personal ownership.

If there is still an issue by this weekend I will make a launcher or something that handles match making pre-server start.

Timer, Windy and I connected for a G66 MPI last night. Was a good connection and had no troubles. He just emailed me his IP.

There are still ways to arrange games, tho not-forum-readers and dumbs won't be able to play games anymore.
Anyways it would be more comfortable to have GS back.

The qr1 code will never be back. Period.

I am thinking about making an app that runs a pass-through GameSpy server on the localhost, converting all requests into RESTful webservice actions pointed to a quick PHP based match tracking system on my web space. (My host doesn't let me do deamons, thus, no actual GameSpy server.) Though if the server needs to actively push some information to the client this becomes problematic, this would be just 'server action on client action'.

A quick Google search does not reveal the wider gaming community in uproar, Looks like its only bz2 1.3

Actually, many other games are affected and people are complaining. See the Powered by Gamespy Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/gamespytech

I do not see any response from Game *AHEM* Glu Mobile. Go to their Facebook and 'give 'em hell'!! :o

I am very bad at google searches... :)
Make's note to never do business with GLU mobile, who presumably now own the qr1 servers too.
