every single thing you said in that made sense. ive been playing for 5 days and theres trolls and people who mock others all game long
Actually there arn't that many Trolls, we can all take a very good guess at who it was you played with. No point mentioning names as these change allot, just note ip's and add to banlist.ini
Hope to see you in game soon. :)

I was hoping that this thread would have some kind of description of how the game has been updated since its release, with the new unofficial patches adding higher-res textures DX9 etc. With a kind of instruction on how best to go about updating your BZ2 to get the most out of it.

I see this is a more current state of affairs regarding the long standing community, which to be honest I never even knew existed. We bought the original BattleZone when it first came out. We didn't have an internet connection as far as I can remember. Just used to play it on LAN.
BattleZone 2 came out and I think it was me or one of my brothers that bought it, tried it out and didn't enjoy it as much as the first, so we never bothered trying in on LAN, I guess some of us may have grown up and moved out around that time. I can't remember much of that time.

After Seeing some info. on a website about the latest patch, it got me interested in trying the game again. All of my brothers are married with children now, and I was thinking we could go relive some of that fun from way back when.

I would think that your community would gather a lot more members quite easily if more people knew about BattleZone 2 and all these updates to it. I spend a lot of the day looking around for information on new PC games, and only just found out that this community existed.
Since it's first release, a lot more people have found the Web, and a heck of a lot of new PC owners than there were back then.
I think once your on GOG and you have some showing off - 'old vs new' videos on Gametrailers.com and the like, people will come a flocking.

Anyways, I can't wait to pick up some copies of the game for my family to enjoy online.

Have fun! :)

A mod would be required to add descriptions to topic titles. Otherwise I would of fully utilized it for this topic in particular.

On another point you made, Nielk1 said mid-way down the first page that the abundance of patches could confuse people, which I'm almost inclined to agree. Not to mention that sometimes a patch can break a previous mod, thus you have to install the correct patch for that... Its easy to have multiple directories, just copy a base install multiple times and keep a 1.0 directory for later use. But the average computer user doesn't know this, and well.. we can go on for days about it. Usually the most popular mods are up-to-date, such as FE and G66, sometimes Uler and a couple others.

But yeah, it was around mid-2000 when I first got into BZ2 or something. So, right around a year after the initial release, and I've seen a lot of happenings in my time. Even today, I still count myself loyal to SFP, even though they don't technically exist anymore. Its hard to join a new clan, when you're so well-known for being in one already...

To really make it accessible to a lot of people, the best thing would be some kind of patching app, that would check for updates online and apply them to their BZ2 install. I get a hankering to play every now and then, but I just don't want to go through all the reading, downloading, and patching.

It would also really help to make BZ2 buyable via digital download, but I doubt Activision or whoever owns it now would bother with that.

im not trying this, but if you want you could try to change the execution of the demo to bzone.exe, then install the patch... that would do the trick!

Would never work. You can't patch the demo, let alone into a full version of BZ2, with anything.

My personnel feelings are if the company doesn't want to offer the game for sale anymore then they've made all the money they want to off of it so they shouldn't mind the game being free for download. Don't get me wrong I don't believe is the downing loading and stealing of games I've even kicked people off my team for doing so but if can't find it to buy then why not get it for free.

Part of the problem is trying to fit in with a group of misfits. I've been around since 2005, and have never really felt welcome by some members who think my demeanor is too oddballish. I've gotten so discouraged time after time that I wonder why I hang around anymore. I think after a while most people just get tired of getting kicked around with some amount of frequecy we just stay active for the sake of liking to interact with other peolple even though some treat us like yesterdays garbage. Don't get me wrong most of the people here are just fine others have an attitude that drives people away with their poor a@@ negative attitudes. This is just my opinion, but if BZII is to last much longer the old timers need to be a bit more accepting of other people and let them be who they are rather then keeping them on a long stick and always treating them like outsiders. ;)

lol klink your avatar

bz2 should restart in its community if we really are losing people because of this problem. of course im not saying shut down the servers for who knows how long, but maybe get some new system of doing things, such as painting and opera. painting is good for the soul, and opera is good for the other souls
but if that wont work, then get some other system of doing things once the new beta comes out (plz dont do ten minutes a day, thats corny)
