All things considered, if one was to use the MAC addresses of anything, it would have to be the gateway (AKA modem). You can't really spoof the MAC address of your gateway device since your ISP relies on that MAC address to provide you with service, and if any JTAG/TFTP hacking of the gateway was detected then it would get the person into hot water with their ISP. I don't know how easily the MAC can be spoofed on integrated Router/Gateways like 2Wires and such but I know that most dedicated gateway/modems are a pain in the *** to reprogram.

That said, how would one even capture the MAC address of the gateway? I thought that information was basically something that was between the client and ISP, ie: confidential enough that police would need to get a warrant to get that information from the ISP.

In the next patch there should be a shell menu that let's you see the recent people who have been in the past 10 games with you or something, and you can ban them. There name will go into a different list of banned people where you can choose to unban them if you want.

Modem MAC would cover everyone in the network, while the NIC level would only block a specific MAC behind that modem.
€6,- for a standard NIC. Wouldnt stop me if I felt a real need to grief someone ... by the time the ones I already have are all blocked I could probably even have an other set for free (who cares about their old default 10/100 PCI NICs?).

98.206.106.199/16 = Banlist entry
98.206.113.173 = veary new IP

That is why I added the /16 since that third octet has changed once before.

1100010.11001110.1101010.11000111
1100010.11001110.1110001.10101101

With the above IPs, a /18 would cover the ban as the first 18 bits have not changed. That doesn't mean they WON'T change.

I would only support the MAC ban if it could be used in addition to the IP ban.
