Re: The Current State of BZ2
Hey guys,
Just registered because I had a few things I wanted to say/things I'm confused about.
I've been playing (albeit very on and off) since the game was on STORE SHELVES. I think it's a great game that just doesn't have the recognition it deserves. I think it would be good if it were possible to make it free (kind of like how MekTek released MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries). The funny thing is that MW4: Mercs is new than this and this isn't freeware for some reason. It'd be great for getting more people to actually recognize this game's existence. (And if this actually happened, make it available on engines like Stardock or Steam or whatever so there's more places people can find it.)
Another thing I think would help make BZ2 better would be to do the following:
1. Remake an official site to refer people to.
2. Advertise said site in, say, the BZ2 loading screen, or an automated message that appears at the start of every game.
3. On said site, have a very clearly labeled tutorial regarding what the latest patch is, how to install it, and a link to get it. The biggest pain for me (when I figured out that a community for this game still exists and was realeasing content and patches) was having to friggin' seek out the topic that discussed something that should've been made very clear from the beginning. (Also, said tutorial should include information regarding the necessity of multiple directories.)
Who killed BZUniverse and how? And why?
I've heard a ton of garbage about "elitist 1.2 vets" harassing people who play 1.3. Why is there any tension here at all? If someone likes one version more than the other, they can play that one. It doesn't even matter anyway, because you can play either--or BOTH at the same time.
I'm a noob too (hardly played any real player vs. player strat matches), mostly MPI. If there was some way for more seasoned players to help the new players out in PVP strat matches, I think that would help a lot. (An issue I remember reading about was the fact that most people wanted to play MPI while the more skilled players wanted to play strat, but there weren't enough skilled players to do so, and some noobs got bashed and quit or whatever.)

Re: The Current State of BZ2
BZU allegedly died because of some punk who had little to do with the gaem at all going across the country to spray paint BZU sucks on CPwiz's car and proceeded mto start taking off the license plate before he was apprehended, or so I hear.
I agree with your idea to put BZ2 on Steam, which hopefully should bring in some new players.
Also, good to see another old player joining up, welcome to the fray Draco.

Who is CPWiz and how does vandalizing a car kill a website?

If you notice, Vengeance was not released for free, probably due to Microsoft's stranglehold.DraconisMarch wrote:snip

No, but Mercs was, which is the newest version--along with the Clan and Inner Sphere Mek Paks, and MekTek's own custom mek package.Zax wrote:If you notice, Vengeance was not released for free, probably due to Microsoft's stranglehold.DraconisMarch wrote:snip

Computer Wiz was the host of the website who was already at that time unhappy with the community and that action put him over the edge so he shut down the site due to anger with the community.

Re: The Current State of BZ2
Here's the back-runner of BZU, or BattleZone Universe.
The site was hosted by CmptrWz, or Tom, who also made the Mod Manager for BZ2. Over the course of a few years, he grew extremely power hungry and pissed off a LOT of people. Course, he didn't care, and this eventually lead to getting a lot of hateful enemies.
He's pissed me off more than enough times than I care to mention, but I will say this. He did manage to bring a central place for BZ fans for everyone to discuss things and that's what people liked. Unfortunately, it also had its own drawback since the vibe I get from him, he didn't care about BZ to a point that he didn't care what happened on the forum anymore.
The site was taken offline on a whim when some idiot drove cross-country to his address of work and supposedly vandalized his car. I haven't heard much anything after that, though honestly, I don't care at this point because quite frankly, he made me a small enemy of his as well.
DraconisMarch, this forum may as well be the Unofficial Official BZ Forum since Nathan/GSH hosts it on his own space. Its taking a bit of time to get things going again with tutorials, but people also have to take the time to write them as well. The multiplayer part of BZ2 has an advertising server Nathan runs that points to this very forum. Other than that, its all word-of-mouth to get it out there to the public.
One last note. If y'all are going to start talking about games not even related to BZ, please take that to the Other Games section and don't discuss it in my topic. This is the second time I'm asking, and I'm not going to be lenient the third time.

Re: The Current State of BZ2
I wonder if I am the one with the most accurate info about what happened to BZU.
A loon in Cally stole the car of his parents and went officially 'missing' while driving cross country to the state CmptrWz resides in. This individual then met up with another and printed several pages out from the forum at the library were CmptrWz works/volunteers/goes to/something and mailed them to him via the closest post office. Then, while he was at work, possibly the library, possibly elsewhere, I don't know, someone spray-painted BZU sucks on his car and possibly did other damage.
At this time, CmptrWz said "f*ck it" and deleted BZUniverse, a website that he had not cared about for some years and that had gotten him harassing phone calls, mail, and other communications at his place of work, at home, and frankly everywhere from numerous people blaming him for everything from flying before removed from 1.3 to vets not letting normal players into their STRAT games.
Later, while his possibly damaged definitely vandalized var was sitting in his driveway, the vandal returned and began to steal this plates. Those things are a bitch to take off however and a neighbor noticed and alerted the authorities.
This individual was found to be a minor and thus any information on them is scarce, however we do know that the parents from which he stole the car blame CmptrWz/Tom for the event. However they also do not have custody of the vandal and the family member whom does is all for some nice ass kicking punishment.
I however am almost hoping someone tries this **** with me. When I am at work, my car is in a secure parking lot. I already have legal action in the beginning stages of motion on the twits whom kept calling me too, but I am waiting to see what security at works suggests or does on the matter. They dug themselves a deep legal hole when they started impersonating officials from GameSpy.

Sounds like you've just got a grudge. Are you saying he doesn't have a right to be pissed because his car was vandalized?
Not going to be lenient? You a mod or something? What I was talking about was COMPLETELY relevant to BZ2. It was an example.
Try harder to mask your anger.

Re: The Current State of BZ2
TwinShadow/Shippo/ScionCrow, Sonic, and CmptrWz go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back. There was a personal falling out and power struggle in relation to things not BZ related.

Re: The Current State of BZ2
Not so much with Sonic, as Wz and him still talk frequently. I have a personal vendetta against Tom after what he did on my Jabber list when BZU was still around. There are various other reason I don't want to get into about why he made an enemy from me, but I'm not about to do things illegal like the moron did to his car.
No, I am not a mod, and don't want to be here. I've been on staff positions for various other forums here and there, and one big one for a month, so I know a thing or two. I've asked twice to stay on topic, people refuse to do so. I am one sentence away from getting this topic locked if people do not wish to take some matters into other topics or do it via PM.

Re: The Current State of BZ2
On the note of the topic, the sate of BZ2, I have some people I could probably merge into the community, but I am refraining from even introducing them tot he game because I do not want to subject them to what goes on here.
