Still down, which is slightly concerning. If you have BZ-related files lying around, now might be the time to upload them somewhere; I have 36TB of online storage and that's more than I could ever fill, so I can at least create a temporary archive.

EDIT: Back up and running.

Wasn't there a post that bzscrap.com was going to go down due to cost? Someone messaged me on steam saying Squirrel put up a post asking for donations to keep the site up. I didn't see the original post so I just going off of what I was told.

There was. That (and it's overwhelming response) is here. It's back up now, so clearly somebody was able to donate.

if squirrelof09 is gona let the site fall out of existence for 20 bucks ...i'll gladly take it over and pay to keep it up....
if you agree squirrelof09 ?
if we get to this point again ...just pm me i'll take care of the site and the fees to keep it running.
I'd hate to have to rebuild one ....I have all the files and the order bzscarp kept them in ... be a shame to let it go.

I did some digging around after I talked to Nielk1. The $20 is the monthly bill from the looks of it. Domains are a yearly cost which is about $12/yr for .com domain. Varies depending on what TLD you want though. But I guess for something like $20 in a month being too hard, maybe its time to pass the torch to someone else finally.

PS: My initial talk with N1 was quite some time ago. When it was first originally up for a renewal.
If you happen to be looking through my posts, I have completely dumped all things related to Battlezone. Do not contact me, do not bother me. Been harassed enough as it is and am done entirely.

Do it for 4 years and come to the realisation you just 'wasted' 1k for hosting files to support a community unwilling to support you supporting it.
Add that it is even more convinient to keep the files locally. Why on earth would a sane person do such a thing? Bragging rights? Arrogance? Ignorance? Aiding the selfish?

I.o.w. $20,-/month may very well 'be too hard' cause of motivational reasons. And the next to carry the torch will eventually suffer from the same condition.

Also, are you volunteering?

No, because I already host almost 4 TB of files for another purpose. But that costs me far more per month than this.

And that some of them will actually attack your sites for doing so.

So in other words, you take the time and effort to critize somebody that does step up to the plate, but are unwilling to do so yourself, no matter what the excuse is?
Did it make you feel any better?

Attack me all you want, but I have other expenses. If I wasn't running that particular service, I would think about taking it over since I keep my online presence rather small.

I don't know what Squirrel does or anything, not like we ever talked much after the fall-out with the UEP. But there is nothing stopping him from completely cancelling the whole thing if he wanted to. BZ2 is dieing, or maybe.. its been dead. There has been nothing notable coming out in ages, and with a multiplayer lobby that keeps going in and out of limbo... BZ2 should be put to rest finally IMO.

If people weren't able to criticise anybody unless they could do better then the world would be a very different place. There goes what little accountability remains. Further TS wasn't criticising squirrel at all; he simply pointed out that the bill is monthly and that it might be time for somebody else to take over.

His point about BZ being dead is dangerously close to correct. BZ1 is still alive - it has around half-a-dozen public, active development projects that post semi-regular updates - but BZ2 has only one or two and there have been no real public releases in the last three months. Its players are still active, but player and developer activity have always kept each other high; what happens when one starts to dwindle?

I throw BZC with TRO out on it's legs and find out if it stands up or falls flat on its face.

When I put out public builds, I see complaints of "there's too many builds!" When I don't, there's complaints of too few. Looking at release dates, it's a ~3 year gap from 1.2 -> 1.3pb1, then 2 years for 1.3pb1 -> 1.3pb2, ~2 years from 1.3pb3 -> 1.3pb4, and almost 2 years from 1.3.6.2 -> 1.3.6.3. Can you please try and define what sort of cadence I should be releasing on, so I can take that into consideration?

As to server space, I can host a number of files on matesfamily.org. I pay somewhere between $110-$120 per year out of my own pocket, and never had any bandwidth issues. Mirroring a site wouldn't take too much to do.
