Post by TheJamsh »

Anyone know why nobody has tried to do this yet? Someone must have had this idea before...

there is a whole thread about this sort of thing here. It talks about GOG.com but the reasons are the same.

If we obtain the distribution rights like we want to, problem goes away. Not gonna happen, though.

It's a long-time thing. Ask me again in twenty years

Besides, you're just about the only person I've seen say Atari are the ones we need to go after for dist. rights. :P

Should have offered them £50.00, its more than they're going to get otherwise.

The way i see it, a fixed version of Bz1.4 and TRO combo selling for 11.99 may only get 50 to 300 sells at best.

If Atari had to pay programmers etc to update the code, replace anet and pay for shelf space, it may cost up to 500k. Bz is not worth anything at this point, just another old title on the long list of games to make Atari look better for fliping.

And how many got their info from Activision legal after a paralegal was assigned the case and looked up the contract?

FYI Kahless had this done when he was trying to get a license for a Bz book he wrote.
All rights are with Atari since 2006.

Exactly as you say it, it is the way you see it. Companies like this dont 'need to sell', the are very comfortable sitting on the rights untill something/somebody comes along that does make it worth their time.
They wont make money if they dont sell it, but potentially can at a later stage, but if they sell it for [nothing] they get nothing nor have any chance of making any money with it at a later stage. Also the people that will need to get involved at their side cost a bit, a single meeting to discuss the sale will already have a pricetag of €500,- or more.

Right, i think they'll hang onto it forever, even to license it they need to research it to know what they have and i don't think Activision gave up ownership of the code because they reused part of it for atleast two more unrelated games.
