Grave Accent key not working

Basically the grave accent key (the key underneath the escape key) wont work in battlezone 2, no matter what patch. I have tried patch 1.2 and various 1.3 patches, including the latest patch which is 1.3.6.4z15. I need it to open up the command interface within battlezone 2.

The key works outside of battlezone 2 in other programs such as microsoft word. My laptop is a toshiba P50t-A-10U. I have also messed around with the function keys settings but still no luck. Please help!

Thank you. :)

This is a frequently asked question. Short summary: many other games have the same issue, commonly seen when a windows device driver decides to unilaterally steal that key. There are workarounds noted in the 1.3 readme file, linked at that topic.

If your laptop has a media remote. The Infrared Reciever (IR Blaster) driver is a likely culprit .

i managed to manually bind the key in patch 1.3, but is this possible to do in patch 1.2 as i can't seem to find any files with similar names or any of the similar folders?

Thanks :)

Sorry, gameprefs.ini (and localprefs_*.ini) are 1.3-only files. A lot has changed in the past ~13 years since 1.2 was released. 1.2 has lots of issues with modern operating systems (Vista, 7, 8), and I encourage you to use a patch released in the past decade with those operating systems.

1.2 is probably best experienced on hardware/software in use at its time of release. Win98/ME, Nvidia Geforce 1/2, and a CRT monitor that's 1280x1024 max, because 1.2 didn't do higher resolutions.
