So guys, i tweeted eons ago @Rebellion about Both BZ1/TRO and BZ2 if they are planning to do something about both games like Re-Releasing them on steam

and they said that they don't have any plans yet(for now) due to Sniper Elite 3 dev and the update of MoonBase Commander

i was thinking here if we could should them the state of Both BZ1 and 2 like Ken's patch on BZC, BZE and the Eternal Wip Elite forces for BZ1 and the PB patches, Forgotten Enemies, Fleshstorm and even QF2 for BZ2

show them our progress and our love for this emperor forsaken game that bind us all since 98, Show them even LtFeed's Bionite

make them see that there's still people who wants BZ back online HD, i know its hard because of the grudges, but for the sake of the Game itself and all Bio Metal, we should try :D.

we already have the SRC, its a chance to show them that we want BZ back!

You got the wrong idea entirely  Paying money for software does not give you any rights at all! Even the estimated remaining 200,000,000 users of WinXP have no rights whatsoever when its makers decide its time for it to die. Sad as it seems you actually have more rights if the software was free in the first place. Users of win XP have just been told by Microshaft that they need to buy new computers (to use win 8.1) or face being compromised by evil doers. While this obviously makes sense to the mansion owning merc drivers at MS, it does not actually help in any way at all the millions of piss poor people still using XP because they would quite like to eat as well as use information technology. Be aware that when you buy software now one of the things you are actually paying for is an expiry date.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the Linux community may be about to grow rapidly.
I also think that independent game devs who want to make some money could do far worse than to develop for this system. (not all linux sw is free) There may well be a big market out there soon.

Oh puhleeze. Windows XP had a set support date, I think it was over 5 years or so, and it survived 2 entire OS release cycles. Setting an EOL date was was for very good reasons. Supporting something as heavy as WinXP bleeds not only the time/money on updating/patching it but also the resources. It also limits your ability to move past supporting legacy OSes/methods and causes additional bloat to occur in the code if something is to be made cross-compatible.

Microsoft extended this date significantly given the popularity of Windows XP, but they can't do so indefinitely, nor should they be expected to.

Now, I don't like Microsoft at all. In fact, I hate their way of doing things and try to avoid using them whenever possible. But, I understand that their decision to stop supporting XP was a reasonable one and applaud their decision to support WinXP as long as they have. But it's time to put Ol' Bessie out to pasture.

That said. I would welcome the influx of new users into the linux community. :)

I understand that, but I think they should at least be prepared to support it for the life expectancy of the hardware it runs on.
200,000,000 is one hell of a bot net.

I suspect they might look at the numbers playing online and not be impressed. I was just using MS as an example of how much purchasers don't really have any rights at all. Many of those 200,000,000 will be pirated anyway and probably already compromised in one way or another.
I sure as hell wouldn't buy win 7 knowing its plug gets pulled in 5 years any more than I would knowingly buy computer hardware with a life expectancy that short.

What you received is likely a standard corporate response; much as I'd like us to, we still have no definite word on whether Rebellion have the Activision IP as well or just Atari property. Kahless claims to know of a contract that signed the Activision IP back to Atari, but nobody else has ever backed him up and no corroborating evidence has ever been seen.

I much prefer the Microsoft (or Ubuntu or FreeBSD, among many others) approach that publishes an end of life date for OSs. Apple just stops publishing patches one day and you don't know why...

I think there was a topic similar to this ages ago, but unless AHadley is right about Dx's claim, Rebellion cannot do anything to our Battlezone. They simply can make games under the name.

If they are to make a new BZ, I only hope for stability and legitimacy.

they have finite resources and need to use them to support 8.x and beyond. if they supported every previous release for infinity, their workforce would balloon.

but damn them for changing windows search...

amazed that a real competitor for ms hasn't appeared yet.

anyways, back on topic.

the only real difference a commercial game company would do is make another SP mission with voice actors, high def graphics, shaders, and better collision, pathing, AI code.

besides, like before, few people would buy it. well, unless it was perverted into some abominable cartoon thing people could play on their phones in 5 minutes.

actually, the original arcade battlezone might work well on a phone/tablet...

It does. :) Sadly it seems that much of the rest of computer gaming history is considered to be of no value whatsoever. Come let us warm our hands by burning the contents of that useless old library...
