Re: Installation Error
To me that sounds like the cd (data) might be corrupted/damaged

Re: Installation Error
make sure its not scratched. There are buffer kits u can buy to buff away the scratches. Also poor mans solution, toothpaste + cloth + rub in circular motion.

Re: Installation Error
Unfortunately, the CD extremely damaged, with weird brown/red spots on it that I didn't see when I put it in.

Re: Installation Error
supposedly the slippery side of a banana peel can actually be used to buff out numerous small scratches

Re: Installation Error
Get a freeware version of Nero cd-burning software and try to make an image of the cd.

I'm not quite sure but sounds like the cd is rusting, if that is actually possible it might be good idea to consider some other form of container for likely all your cd's.Lionsgatepride wrote:Unfortunately, the CD extremely damaged, with weird brown/red spots on it that I didn't see when I put it in.
Re: Installation Error
Only iron rusts, the metal layer in CDs is aluminium. This layer might start to corrode if the lacquer that protects it was improperly formed, but if that's the case you'd have a noticeable deformation on the disc's outer layer (and aluminium oxide is white, not brown/red).Red Spot wrote:I'm not quite sure but sounds like the cd is rusting, if that is actually possible it might be good idea to consider some other form of container for likely all your cd's.

Re: Installation Error
If the label side is damaged and it affects the reflective layer then you can't really do anything about that.

Re: Installation Error
If there are any cracks on your disc, take care (and heed) when using it in disc drives- the disc will spin extremely fast, and as a result your disc could explode. As you may have guessed, this is the point of no return for both your disc and your drive.
