Yes, alive, and searching for a stable old installation of the Forgotten Enemies. Cannot find one that does not crash in the SP campaign. Tried rolling back to old mod versions but nothing is available.

I'm not sure if you know about this, but Battlezone 2 got a remaster and is currently available on Steam.

Wasn't someone working on a 1.3 FE port?

ofc i dunno how well it would go. A lot of that game depended on you circle strafing to death like 100390987098783734 initial waves before you had any chance of defenses. 1.3 units shoot too well for that.
