An easy mode that is triggered via the OPTIONAL SYSTEM already in the shell would be optimal, but RD is probably too busy putting Day/Night cycles in SP missions to do that.

Ahhh thanks, that's good to know.

I did play FE some years ago when it was half completed and I don't remember it being as hard as it is now, but then again I've also lost a few more braincells since then which could also explain it :)

I'd forgotten about the cheat codes, I played through a mission last night using bzbody and it was a lot less stressful and nice to get past the tricky bit.

I also have the not being able to deploy the recycler problem on level 7 that I've seen reported by others.
