VSR 5.0 Released

Post by Zero Angel »

The VSR mod has been updated to version 5.0.

Version 5.0 adds several new refinements and features to your game play experience including:

* Balanced for competitive play
* 2 Additional Races. The Hadeans from FE as well as a new race called the Daedlians.
* Dozens of high quality maps included
* All maps allow play vs CPU teams
* Improvements to MPI mode including units that retreat for repairs and ammo, patrols, and AI teams that select semi-random weapons based on their tech levels
* Improvements to FFA mode allow multiple human teams to play against multiple AI teams. Players may 'thug' under a commander or command their own team. Highly configurable!
* Improvements to our framework allow mod makers to create add-ons for VSR that introduce new races and further customize the game play experience for players. AIP creation is now greatly simplified.
* And much more!

See release notes and download at http://tinyurl.com/bz2vsr

Note: Stock AIPs are untested and not expected to work properly on VSR maps. Please use VSR AIPs only.

Those who are interested in submitting AIPs for possible inclusion in a future VSR release are welcome to do so. I am looking for people to help improve our AI plans or develop alternative ones.

I kinda assumed so, after I found Juggz PM-notifications in my inbox concerning this release of VSR a couple of hours after my initial reply.

Thanks for the upgrade, I like in particular making more races available and offering all maps for mpi as well. In particular the latter is rather neat.

relay bunkers

Post by yeah »

I got a question with regard to the use of relay bunkers in this release (uin mpi mod). On some maps the relay works as before but on other maps I get menu screen of sort instead of the satellite view. I the selection list on the top left there is the string "activate" listed, but i can really select or do anything with it nor did I manage to get to the satellite view. Is this simply a bug? Or is there something else required to get the satellite working? In that case what exactly do I need to do.

The satellite view and portals from the experimental recycler variant will only work on VSR maps (which use the VSR DLL) as well as instant action (because VSR includes an updated instant.dll). If you're playing a stock map then I advise you select the VSR standard recycler so that you can use the regular comm bunker if you need to.

Hey Zero Angel,
Thanks for this release. I have run into an issue though. It seems to be for a few mods that I have tried and it actually seems to come down to resolution. If I run at my native than it crashes. If I come down to a lower supported resolution it runs.. It's only with certain mods as the game runs just fine unmodded and actually forgotten enemies runs just fine as well.. I don't know the structure of things so I'm not really sure what is going on, but here is a log.

Re: VSR 5.0 Released

Post by Zero Angel »

It's a problem with the release. We compiled scaled versions of shell configs but didn't test them properly prior to release. As a result using scaling factors greater than 1.0 will cause a crash on map load. You can turn shell scaling to 1.0 or you can unzip my fix to your BZ2 folder.

Dude,Or Dudette I guess.. as I have NO idea.. ahem
Anyway..
It..
Thank you very much for your quick response.. I started playing BZ 1 when it first came out and picked up BZ2 from a store that was taking them out of the box and putting it on the shelf..
I have nothing but appreciation for anyone still working on this amazing game. I actually got my 15 Year old son into it and he literally gets pissed when something comes up when we are supposed to play.
Thank you very much. It really is appreciated and Happy Holidays to you and everyone out there still keeping the faith with BZ2. Everyone else of course can ROTT. ;-) I have issues.

Hey Zero Angel,
I actually unzipped that to my root Battlezone 2 directory and for some reason it's still doing the same thing.. Do I need to rename this to something else?
Someone else smarter than me apparently talked about having to rename files because of duplicates but I'm not seeing that..
Anyway.. I'll poke around..
Thanks again.

There is something wrong with his fix.
When you unzip it it creates a file without an extension which is an archive
that contains the fix. This archive cannot be unpacked. The file vsrbasesetup does not have an extension either.

7-zip opens it just fine - open the zip, double-click on VSR5_0_shellfix and follow the folders to the CFG files.

Code: Select all

VSR5_0_shellfix\VSR\shell\shell\Shell_x*\bzgame_base_x*.cfg
You can ignore the vsrbasesetup file in the first shell\ folder.
battlezone.wikia.com needs your help!

Guys, I hate to sound stupid but I'm feeling pretty stupid at this point so I guess It's ok if I sound stupid. "Stupid is as stupid does" to quote a legendary thinker.

Ok.. I am using WinRAR to unpack and it unpacks fine. This is how it looks in Notepad++ just for kicks. Honestly I'm at a loss as to what the beginning line is doing as it shows a path (oddly) with a bunch of padded nulls.
The file doesn't have an extension as mase stated. It does extract fine though using WinRAR or 7-zip which I downloaded just for this.
As far as I can tell.. This is not a native windows script. It's not a native Batch file. It currently doesn't know how to launch on my system at all so I'm obviously missing something Ahadley if you can somehow double click this to make it work.
I have tried copying this file to the following locations without success
E:\Battlezone 2
E:\Battlezone 2\VSR
E:\Battlezone 2\VSR\VSR
I have replaced the vsrbasesetup.cfg file with this one (renamed obviously) located here
E:\Battlezone 2\VSR\VSR\shell
I have replaced the bzgame_base.cfg with this file located here
E:\Battlezone 2\VSR\VSR\shell\shell
As well as the bzgame_base_x2_0.cfg located here
E:\Battlezone 2\VSR\VSR\shell\shell\Shell_x2_0
I started trying this because it LOOKS like a cfg file even though there is not extension on this file.

So for the love of God, Someone please help me.. I HOPE I'm just missing something stupid because .. well.. I've been doing computers since I was 14 and I'm now 49 so I have all kinds of opportunities to look stupid pretty much every day. So I'm ok with stupid, so PLEASE ANYONE please please I'm begging (hysterical typing) here!! Is it ok in this day and age for a man to cry?

Someone Please clear up my confusion as since I have mentioned my AGE, you should be able to surmise that I'm OLD.. and that I am at a point where I need to use reading glasses and that very tiny UI stuff on the screen is WAYYYYY too tiny.

And Although I have played Battlezone for decades now (what really?) I am still young enough to see the screen and play video games if I sink my hands into two large bowls of Bengay for an hour before I play.

So Help an old guy out who will fall apart at any moment but who will go knowing that he managed to get VSR 5.0 to launch with a scaled hud display before he heads off to the lands where he can play Battlezone 3.
Thanks..
Snippet of the file below just in case the weirdness at the top is not supposed to be so weird.
Thanks.
