Connection Timeout?
Hello fellow BZ2 players. I have come across an issue when trying to do BZ2:FE multiplayer games. Perhaps this question has already been answered and I have not had the patience to search for it after a clean half hour of doing so and turning up nothing. My question presently is: When I try to do multiplayer in BZ2:FE, if I attempt to join a game, or when my brother on the computer downstairs attempts to join a game, it initially tries to connect and then stops, telling me it's timed out, but if someone else joins a game I start it just kicks them or freezes for me at the start of a game. Is there a way to overcome this problem so I can start playing the game with my family and friends? All attempts at fixing are appreciated.

Re: Connection Timeout?
Restart bz2 after failing to join a game.
Re: Connection Timeout?
Already done that. Multiple times. Even reinstalled the damn thing. Didn't help.

Re: Connection Timeout?
It most likely that you didn't input the text to the shortcut properly.
Make sure you keep the default info intact in the shortcut target line, then add a space then /config FE13.cfg hit apply and try again with that shortcut.

Re: Connection Timeout?
Ok its like this, bz26.2 has a small bug, where if you attempt to connect to a server that is no longer there (lingering on gamespy) it will, after failing to connect, be unable to accept connections from clients if you start a server, this requires a restart to clear it. You cannot cure it, you just need to be aware that after failing to connect, you need to restart and if you see clients attempting to join you and failing, you need to restart.
I don't know about FE. but you may be seeing this bug combining with some other problem.

Re: Connection Timeout?
No, the text is entered correctly. Hence why I'm able to play single player.
Also, it's just FE. In regular BZ2, I can do multiplayer just fine sans some kicks due to lag on the other players' parts.

Re: Connection Timeout?
I know that in 1.2, if 2 players were on the same network and both wanted to join a game over the internet, the players would have to join at the same time. I don't know what the situation is in 1.3, but that's what I would try. Otherwise the only other workaround I would see is for one of those players to host a game.

what version of FE?
Its important info needed before anyone can give you a meaningful response.
Re: Connection Timeout?
@Zero Angel That's not what it is, separate networks failed before we tried same network play.
@MrTwosheds Latest community patch on BZ2, 1.3.6.2, and Latest version of FE I could find on the forums, FE13 PB61 V2

Re: Connection Timeout?
Presumably you are using a router, is port forwarding set up on it for use by 2 computers, they cannot both use the same ports.
Re: Connection Timeout?
If you're behind a router, you cannot host BZ2 from the same port on two (or more) machines simultaneously. However, you can have (multiple clients) or (1 server and 0-N clients) just fine behind a router.

Re: Connection Timeout?
i have to set GameBasePortNumber on my second machine to something other than the port used by my first machine so it doesn't time out.
add\config\Gameprefs.ini
GameBasePortNumber = 17770
change ^^^ that to:
GameBasePortNumber = 17774
on your brother's
