Client connecting
Someone has been trying to join my games all day today. Says client connected 75.125.121.198:49573. No name is ever shown and when it happens in-game noone but me (the host) sees it happening. And it happens even when the room/world is full.

Re: Client connecting
In pb6.2?
There is a bug, where after a timeout connecting to another server, your server may not accept connections. (cant find it in bugzilla)
The result of this sounds much like what you have described, except it does not happen all day and your sever would typically be empty if it was happening.

Re: Client connecting
Sent an email to support@softlayer.com, who appear to be the owners of this ip, it would seem that everyone (bz2)is seeing this. Hopefully they will stop it. We'll have to blink their trucks if they don't.

Re: Client connecting
That is Kebbz's game list probe. The current method he uses to get a list of players in-game as well as their pings.

I believe he changed to using this method some 16 hours ago since I made this post. It would be nice if there was a way for him to have his players probe be less intrusive, or a way for bad joiners messages to be squelched after x amount of instances. But like I said, it's fairly new. I'll talk to Kebbz and let him know there are some complaints about the joiner messages.

Sent another email to support@softlayer.com telling them to disregard my previous communication.
Very useful is Kebbs probe, but not so useful that we want it spamming our chat.

Re: Client connecting
Looks like AutoBlockBadJoins is the thing to do for now if it bothers you. Kebbz said that he hasnt yet found a way to get it to work without actually connecting to the game (and causing the message), but I think he's just having trouble understanding the advice that GSH and Neilk1 gave him on the IRC chat about how BZ2 queries the gamespy servers for players. I'm sure he will figure something out eventually.
Re: Client connecting
Not sure about this but in the time BZ2 was released you also got a gamespy app, iirc it could query the games being set up via gamespy. If you could adapt that you might pretty much be able to just copy the gamelist directly from gamespy ... lots of iirc's and afaik's here though.

Re: Client connecting
It could work for QR1 queries, but perhaps not so for QR2 stuff. Kebbz said that he's making progress though, so the join spam may go away on its own soon enough.
Re: Client connecting
Oh god thats so annoying. Kebbz is overdoing that, I am getting this message every 10minutes and I've been trying to help this guy to join a game (made different hosts with differents ports) and now its a bot?
Sry kebbz, but adding this IP to my ban list now, thats just too annoying during gameplay.

Re: Client connecting
Kebbz is still trying to figure out how the get the data from the server. You have to query each server directly under QR2 where QR1 stored all information on the master server. At that time, his method of getting the information caused a full connect. Clearly there is a way to *not* do this full connect and it will be what is used in the end.
Re: Client connecting
grrrrr, very annoying and UN-called for
Re: Client connecting
I disagree, it's nothing but a minor irritation for the host so far.

Re: Client connecting
ask him to check if there is a GS command to do it invisibly.
Re: Client connecting
There is such a command; BZ2 1.3.6+ uses it to read the playerlist at the session list screen.
