The AAN Scion Mission 20 is also broken

Post by cysten »

I didn't get any saves, but you can go into the mission, and see.

First off it is nearly impossible. Without the enemy bomber or a way to stop it it is doable.

The second problem is that after you wipe out the base and convoy the success trigger does not go off. So the game just sits there without anyway of advancing.

A Rocket Tank equipped with Hornet is the standard ISDF counter to air units. Scion Archers equipped with Popper are supposed to be good for anti-air, but the Popper is, last time I checked, not very good at anti-air.

As for the convoy, you have to destroy the Hauler carrying the... Power Crystal? Before it gets away. If you still don't get a success build a Tug and have it pick up the crystal.

If you still don't win, something's gone wrong.

Its one of the good ones :) not nearly impossible at all, a bit annoying maybe, especially the assault tanks that keep spawning, rather than actually being built at the enemy base (why?)
And yes I had that the first time I completed it, the mission did not end even though there was nothing left to shoot.
I played it again and that time it worked fine.

Assault Tanks will spawn and attack your things; they don't all come from the base. Build yourself a tank with SP-Stab, Chain Gun, MDM Mortar, and M-Curtain. Use the M-Curtain to block the fire from the Assault Tanks while you take them out with SP-Stab and Chain Gun.

While you are fighting, the enemy will occasionally send their Bomber. Start pumping out Rocket Tanks as soon as you have enough scrap and continue to hold on to your pools. This is very, very easy if you have a lot of Scavengers to pick up the loose scrap (metallic pieces of scrap laying around the field from the destroyed Assault Tanks).

Once you have enough Rocket Tanks (10, to be safe?), send them to the enemy base and destroy it. Keep them there to destroy the convoy. Make sure the power crystal does not get destroyed.

The mission is not impossible, it's just difficult.

The missions were 1.2 balanced, not 1.3 balanced. This absolutely effects anything the developers had to do with gun towers vs assault units thanks to range improvements of the assault class (which was badly needed if you ask me). The ISDF walker and assault tank are the biggest (only?) offenders.

Truth. This is coming after BZ1 lockdown scripts that would utterly fail you in many ways if you so much as strayed off your rail. If it didn't fail you, the mission was scripted in such a way that outcomes were unavoidable no matter what you did or where you were. Even hack a tank and try to take out the (spoiler) golem that kill Eldridge? Do whatever you want to it. That recy is rigged with explosives.

Hey there is nothing wrong with this mission. You just have to make rocket tanks with hornet to keep the bomber dead. Yes it takes a while to build up to an army to attack the enemy base, but this is war soldier. And yes the bomber probably comes a lot more since the 1.3 patch, but you can handle it. Uh, hint, don't forget to put a few turrets and rocket tanks behind base, heehee.
The trigger has always gone off for me in 1.3. I don't know what happens for you but when I destroy the enemy tug and all of the enemy units it usually ends. Make sure to use your radar to look for a ship sitting around not attacking, causing the mission to not end.

Its not that, I drove my tug with power crystal and army all round the map trying to get it to end. In the end I gave up and started it again, I don't know what I did different the next time when it ended properly.
Maybe I killed the convoy too soon/late or something.

Sometimes I find that if I save and reload the mission it will end.

v1.0 Pathing and a lot of water .. thats why, I think.

Honostly, I find the mission pretty easy. Just build 2 GTs at the end of the path the Atanks come from, and stack a few Rtrucks there. Put 3 Rtanks in front of your base (near/in front the middle pool) and 2 more on the slope between the above mentioned GTs and the AI base and the AI-Bomber is a non-issue.
Now drive 3 Atanks to the AI-base and leave them there (may want to help take out the single Atank in front of the AI-base), when you come back the AIs forward defences have been removed and you can drive in to finish the recy and factory (if the Atanks arent already able to hit it).
After that I have build up a full group of Sabres and use those to nuke the escorts ... mission over :)

The Atank hasnt been altered, the AI shoots a bit better, but thats pretty much it. The Walker is a different story, cant even understand why it didnt have assault-weapons to start with. However the Walkers often dont use their full range as they only have a fairly short radarrange.
