I has occurred to me some time ago (actually several years ago) that allied ffa would be cool. Now i don't remember much but is such a function possible or has it already been implemented?

Yes its in page 2 of FFA extra options.

Its a part of 1.3.
You can play FFA with or without teams. (Sort of like the same as DM, you can make 2 teams, or each for him/herself.)
