TO ALL WHO ARE DISAPPOINTED: HOW TO MAKE IT BETTER

Post by Ded10c »

If you're disappointed with PB6.1, take the following simple steps to help speed up a solution.

1. If you see something odd going on in the middle of a game, stop playing, chase down the issue if you can, take some screenshots, and then copy your logs after the game.

2. Upload the files to this forum and describe the issue. Be polite.

Doing so will help speed up the development and release of the next patch. You may not finish your games, but it's short term and you will make a net gain.

Could someone sticky this?

One word of advice, If you are using a BZ2 that has been altered (downloaded by torrent or modified by yourself) in any way, please do NOT, bother to test, try to enter tests, post logs or come here whining about issues that none of the other testers have seen. Only patched installations of the original BZ2 should be tested.
This is just to avoid confusing the testing results and introducing unknown variables.
If in doubt make a clean install from your BZ2 CD, and patch with pb1.3.6.1 only.

First off, I wish to thank all of those involved in the continued evolution of BZ2 for your selfless investment of time and resources.

To those who feel that the latest release did not live up to your expectations, please realize that the problems that have surfaced were not maliciously contrived just to harass you and that the developers are probably more upset about the situation than you are. After all, it was your choice to download and install this patch and it did not cost you anything other than your time and the self-chosen use of your internet connection. Please offer constructive critiques and try to provide the development team with the information that they are requesting (see first post in this thread and http://www.bzforum.matesfamily.org/view ... ?f=7&t=528).

Based on my reading of posts concerning the PB6.1 release, there seems a re-occurring point: the lack of sufficient people in the game during testing that would stress the code. I don’t know the criteria for being a tester or what is required of them (maybe someone could elaborate), but I assume that a fair amount of documenting skills are required and this is not task that many are willing to undertake. However, I believe that if you asked, you could get a group of people to volunteer as in-game placeholders with the only required effort of playing and submitting the requisite log files. This may be something that could be considered for testing prior to the next release.

That, and it used to be that you knew someone on the testing team. I don't know what changed, but Sonic was a long standing member on the beta team, and that eventually got me a spot for roughly 2, maybe 3 months.

Just realize the "beta" in the title of each patch. Bugs are apparent, follow the advice to make a better patch, and everyone will be happy.
