Regarding Sly - and I am no friend of him - he is not the worst, actually he can be helpfull, even to MPI'ers, when he wants to. Just saying.
(I'm perfectly content with him on the banlist though.)

Re: 1.3.6.4y - OPEN BETA & TESTING
I confirm the cursor lock up/down is fixed \0/ (yesterday in w version i had the bug and can't unlcok him).
John_cooke ( a new player) have off his firewall and configure his port forwarding but i still can't enter his games.
The first time i had try to join him in y version, that work, and since i have out for change team, i can't join.
He confirm he have the ports forwarded in his ISPbox, and his PC don't have change IP.
I think it's an error of himself (he is totally noob) but i ask anyway.
EDIT: i had join again his game and cant do a second time. That seems like i can enter only when it's the first time after launching BZ2, and not at every launch.

Gamemode specific banlists may work and was something I had contemplated suggesting for a while.
Re: 1.3.6.4y - OPEN BETA & TESTING
Griefing DM's is basically impossible, but I'm not going to argue. I talked to Sly, and he is okay with staying on the ban list because players who want to play with him can unban him. The ban list could be very useful for strat players, so it would not be a good idea to take off banning capabilities for strats.GSH wrote: As to Sly having to finally pay the price for all his misdeeds-- he's well overdrawn at the bank of karma and it's sad to see a community standing up for the slime therein -- the only change I might consider is this: no bans (banlist, proxylist, userbanlist) work whatsoever in strat games, while DM/MPI those three files work. That'd be fair, given how much the DM/MPI communities have suffered.
Quoted for truth. There are MANY players who are worse than Sly. Sly just gets the attention because he's a more popular member of the community. I honestly don't understand much of the beef that people have against him when there are much worse offenders out there.Red Spot wrote:Regarding Sly - and I am no friend of him - he is not the worst, actually he can be helpfull, even to MPI'ers
But, like I said, Sly is okay with it the way it is.
This is where my signature picture would normally be. It is not, as you can see.
You're wasting your time reading this.

Re: 1.3.6.4y - OPEN BETA & TESTING
Please do not do this! many of us "others" rely on the bans to be able to play at all. It is a myth that only Mpi's get griefed, it just as surely happens to strat games if they are not hosted by the right people. The purpose of griefing or ddos is often just to remove players from one game so that they then join another. I play all modes of this game as do quite a few other players, the one mode we really need effective bans in is strat otherwise the deliberately disruptive, mad or offensive and the users of exploits will make playing the game more trouble than its worth.the only change I might consider is this: no bans (banlist, proxylist, userbanlist) work whatsoever in strat games
Despite what others seem to think, I know that GSH is actually very principled in how handles his responsibility for this game, the fact that this has only happened now, after years of being subjected to a hate campaign by a small minority, is actually evidence of this.
I do not believe GSH would take the action he has without any evidence. (no I haven't even asked him and don't expect him to publish it) So if Sly is actually innocent... then I would recommend that he gives his PC a very thorough search for the components of the alleged bot net and contemplates his very foolish decision to publicly post threats to perform such attacks on another forum.

There are not many players worse than Sly, I can think of 2 that are worse in general. Some may have been more die-hard for a short while, but havent been griefing for nearly as long as Sly has been. Next to that, some of the bad elements you like to refer to are caused by your own clicks attitude, like with Muffin or KP, but you guys can apparently not take responsibility for your own actions/behaviour. When somebody behaves like you do, probably even cause of peerpressure, something you should know very well, you tend to attack them as a group and find it strange things go from bad to worse.
Not even mentioning the double standards you like to apply.

I think that would probably be a problematic development, game mode can be changed with the scroll of the mouse wheel, there would be a lot of user interaction issues with that approach.Gamemode specific banlists may work and was something I had contemplated suggesting for a while.

Either way, the so called selfproclaimed 'vets' are more than capable of editing a textfile ..

Red Spot, I have never actually seen you in game. so how do you know?
I've played some games with sly in the past, though he's gotten bored and sometimes says things in chat via macro commands that he thinks are funny, or are pre-set in Vearie's custom shell, or however it may be, he does not troll nearly as bad as muffin.

Re: 1.3.6.4y - OPEN BETA & TESTING
I have, he's actually quite a good player. Personally I don't think a players ability to win games or how frequently they play has any bearing whatsoever on their right to have an opinion. But then I wouldn't because I am usually just very good at losingRed Spot, I have never actually seen you in game. so how do you know?

I actually enjoy losing if the game was sufficiently challenging, not rushed and free from exploit use, defending from a position of weakness is one of the most challenging aspects of the game.

Noticing some game lag when being hit by arc cannon on a warrior.

Okay, I do not know Sly, barely even play BZ2 much except for when I can't find anything I'd like to play. That being said, I'm do not believe in using and providing locally editable text files to ban someone for their misdeeds, and I do not believe in the effectiveness of IP-banning. If you're going to ban them from life for multi-player misdeeds, don't make it user-editable at all, whether that be hard-coding it into the multiplayer DLLs or whatnot.
