I really did expect there to be a few more opinions in this thread, replacing graphics will effect just about every map ever made.
Going to have to experiment with the per mip options in dxtgen.exe, to make the normal view a bit more blurry. Putting in a high detail Earth makes some of the other sky sprites look old and sad.

Decided on this one, here's a screen shot, normal view and maximum zoom. Limited the image to only 4 mipmaps, as the sky does not move.

Guess I'm going to have to do the 2 Saturn pictures now too.

and try to locate close matches for
psnebu02.tga, psnebu03.tga, psnebu04.tga, psgalax1.tga.
(data.pak/worlds/pluto/sky)
psnebu01.tga is Orion.
Images need to be near to or larger than 1024x1024.
Unless we have a secret astronomy nerd around here already?

Managed to find very good hi res images for psnebu01.tga, psnebu03.tga, psgalax1.tga and saturn.tga.
Having trouble locating hi res images very like psnebu02.tga, psnebu04.tga and saturn2.tga. Might use something just a bit similar.
Got to wonder why you can see the Orion Nebula in 3 different places in the sky of Pluto in BZ2

After a bit more searching, I figure out that psnebu02.tga is also the Orion nebula, in a different colour. 
So thats 4 Orion nebulas you can see from pluto.
So ill just find another nebula with similar colours and use that.

Attempted to to improve sky, dsky and bane sky, failed to produce much improvement. Now looking into producing similar more detailed tiled cloud textures at 2048x2048.
Also brings to my attention again the skys-lighting issue that came along with dx9 lights, can't see my textures for the glare.

Pluto's sky in high resolution, a lot more stars.

Continuing to rework textures, Have not really tackled any units or buildings yet...Still hoping someone else will want to contribute because there is still a lot to do.

Really only interested in attempts to make the skins look like more detailed versions of the originals but 16 times larger. Some artistic licence will be acceptable, but the overall impression should be that nothing obvious has changed until you get up close.

That Pluto sky is just freakin' gorgeous. Considering I do love Astronomy, not a whole lot of opportunities I can see the night sky where there are no city lights around. Not unless I feel like driving 50 miles out just to star gaze...
Anyway, I know how old this topic is right now, but meh, I don't care. I might debate on making some personal skins for ISDF and Scion maybe, but I dunno.. Either way, can't wait to see unit textures in hi-res, that'll be fun to see.

The topic may be old but the work is uncompleted, been taking a break from bz2 stuff for a while, but will get back to it when I feel inspired again. I would advise anyone wishing to contribute, to work on building and craft skins, as these are the area's where I have done relatively little so far.
