Strange AV my friend keeps getting

Post by squirrelof09 »

My friend can't play the game. he keeps getting this AV in either fullscreen or windowed mode. In windowed mode, after the intro is escaped, AV. In fullscreen he crashes before any of the intro screens are shown.

I've suspected something could be fishy with his GFX card, but he can play other games seemly without problems.

Shown below is the AV in windowed mode after the intro is played.

We've also tried /nointro. So it doesn't seem bink related.

If the game was running okay before without issues than maybe something has become corrupt with the existing install. Can he try a going back to an earlier restore point? Ask him if it just starting doing it or if it's a new installation then perhaps a reinstall is warranted?

Email (to me) or post the entire battlezone.log file, please. There might be some more info in there I can figure out. Odds are, your current graphics adapter (monitor index) is out of range, as if you'd run on a machine w/ multimonitor and then disconnected the monitor (e.g. laptop w/ external display), or the preferences file is corrupted.

To reset the adapter index or a busted preferences file, try running with /safemode on the commandline. 1.3.6.* creates a start menu shortcut to run bzone.exe/bz2edit.exe with that commandline. Just run once to the main menu (if possible), then exit. That'll reset all the graphics options to safe and sane defaults, leaving the rest of the prefs file untouched.

Thank you GSH. The /safemode commandline fixed his issue. We realized that he did once have a secondary monitor plugged into the computer the last time he had run bz2 on his computer.

Is it still necessary for me to send the log file? I have it and can send if you think you may still need it.

Don't need the logfile if /safemode fixed it.
