Hello everyone !
Because my brother and I are french, I was asking myself if it was possible to use the 1.3 patch in french.
We saw it hadn't been developped, so here I come !
Is there a way to translate the game, at list for the text ?
Thanks,
Gaka ~

The 1.3 patch does not have a localization team, however there are some files that are safe to edit without causing 'bad asset' errors.
The main file is called localize.odf and that is located in your Battlezone 2/addon/config folder. It is a plain-text file that contains several text strings that can be translated to french and can be edited in notepad.
Additionally the 'shell' (interface) files can be translated without causing 'bad asset' errors (these files end with a .cfg file extension). However the files for individual objects, buildings and units in the game cannot be edited (to my knowledge) without causing bad asset errors. I do know that versions prior to 1.3 had translations (back when there was still a larger development team), for example scouts were translated to 'Eclaireur' and tanks were called 'Char Leger' in the french version. However I would not know how to do that without causing a 'bad assets' error in 1.3, it may be possible that the 'UnitName' parameter is entirely ignored by the asset checker which would enable editing. Perhaps someone else could explain if there is a way to translate unit names without causing asset issues.

Localization in BZ2 is a mess, which is sad.

IIRC GSH once said that UnitName was not asset checked, because there IS a german version of the game.

Three languages; English, French and German. It might be good if there were native/fluent speakers to help 1.3, but it's probably not important.
