/record feature still working in 1.3?

Post by mase »

I tried recording a session by using /record myfile in a shortcut, then playing an instant game,
but no file was created. At least in 1.2 the file was created in the bz2 root folder.
Does this feature still work?

No, the /record and /playback feature has been cut. Any logic error that could cause a resync in MP would also affect Singleplayer / Instant Action recordings. You could watch a replay for a while, then be off shooting at thin air.

A more advanced system was started to try and track down logic errors, but is compiled out of public builds as it is not ready. It also consumes disk space like crazy.

Juggernaut at BZ2Maps.us has posted a bit about recording games and editing those videofiles ... it includes a few suggestions what software to use .. dig that topic up. I'd advice you not to get involved with the rest of the forum though.

1. Use FRAPS
2. Then VirtualDUB (or your favorite video editor like Sony Vegas, Windows Movie Maker, or whatever) to compress the files
3. Upload
4. ???
5. PROFIT!
If you happen to be looking through my posts, I have completely dumped all things related to Battlezone. Do not contact me, do not bother me. Been harassed enough as it is and am done entirely.

The BZ2 /record commandline never recorded images/videos. Just the inputs (keyboard & mouse) so that playing back should look the same.

Seriously, you think that in 1999 we could slam out images/video to disk on a Pentium 166MMX and not slaughter the framerate? Hah.

Yeah, trying to use this for debugging purposes not for recording a video.
