Launch 1.2, jump over a cliff, look down, press s. Further acrobatic variation thereof.

Wow, you don't even know how to do it AHadley? ???

You look down, then turn 90 degrees and hold S plus whichever strafe key is aiming UP, depending on which direction you turned.

So your ship is angled 90 degrees ish, sideways, in mid air, strafing upwards...more or less.

1.2 style flight is a bug in the physics code, in the same class as turrets in pools. And other logic errors like crashing games w/ characters, recy/factory panel exploits, etc. BZ2 was not designed as a game for infinite flight. It's built for hovercraft a short bit above the ground, only. Infinite flight breaks turret aim, because as BZ2 was designed at Pandemic, craft just wouldn't be far off the ground. All of the bugs I mentioned above are fixed in 1.3, plus balance changes, new assets, and new features (e.g. DirectX 9, pregame irc, easy hosting, voice comm in game). 1.2 also had a bunch of balance changes and other tweaks too, if you're honest enough to compare it to 1.0/1.1.

There's not going to be a picking and choosing of pet bugs to include in 1.3. Ken and I have made it clear for 7+ years that infinite flight is not part of 1.3, and it's going to remain that way. If you want that pet bug, you're perfectly free to go play 1.0-1.2, but you'll miss out on various new features (DirectX9, easy hosting, voice comm, etc) of 1.3.

I've been watching the list of BZ2 games being played over the last few weeks, and most of the time, 1.0-1.3pb5.1 has zero games and players, while 1.3pb6 has 3-8 games with a dozen or two players. Heck, there seems to be as many people playing 1.3pb1-pb5.1 as there are playing 1.2 most days. BZ2 v1.1 hasn't had games up in months as far as I can tell, but there's no weeping and gnashing of teeth over that; people have moved on to something else. Judging by the list of public games, it's really rare for the 1.2ers to actually play the game that they claim to be doing. The BZ2 community has voted with their feet, and 1.3pb6 is far more popular than 1.2 is. I attribute some of that to pb6's features, some of that to the toxic attitude the hardcore 1.2 'vets' (*spit*) have. 1.2 is not being actively killed. It's being abandoned because there are better things elsewhere. 1.2 isn't quite as dead as 1.1 is, but it's looking like it's getting close.

Topic lock time.
