BZ2 1.3.6.4z33 - Open beta & testing

Download this and unpack over your existing 1.3.6.4 install's exe. This is a quick patch that re-enables construction rig upgrades and other tweaks

If you can, please install and test this. I think that this build is about 99.9% of what I want to put into a 1.3.6.5 release. Your best chance of having bugs fixed for 1.3.6.5 is to report things on the 1.3.6.4 series. Logfiles -- battlezone.log and chatlog (if enabled) -- are useful. Otherwise, reporting things in a way that makes them happen here is best.

See the changelog for the fuller descriptions of what's changed. Since 1.3.6.4n:

- Construction rigs can upgrade once again
- Much work to make griefers less able to annoy people
- Anyone can now ban anyone at any time - if you're a client in a game, you can ban a host or another client. Anyone you've banned who's hosting a game won't show up on the list of servers. Anyone you've previously banned who is a client in a game you joined is now warned about
- CUT the 1.2-style physics craft variants. The 1.3 patch series does not encourage that monoculture of overpowered scouts. Learn to explore the tech tree.
- Tweaked session registration and browsing to hopefully work around antivirus with overactive web shields better
- Chroming of objects is now SSE-powered for greater performance
- Tracked vehicle physics ought to be more solid. BZ2's collision code is still garbage, though
- On players leaving in a teamplay game, their units are redistributed to remaining players to avoid orphanage
- Upscaled shell fonts to look less klunky at large resolutions - note that this will require mods with custom extra options pages to also be upscaled
- Ingame UI can be upscaled by a preference - see graphics options, page 2, bottom right
- Input smoothing option from Ken, also pathing system tweaks and particle render from him.
- MP escape screen chat should scroll better
- Fix for input getting stuck at edges of range
- Crash logs aren't overwritten next boot, up to 10 crash logfiles and 5 regular logfiles are kept
- Smoother timeskew code, and servers will now time out delayed moves for clients to keep the game smoother.
- More work run in background thread while waiting for vsync for smoother
- More retransmits of player packets for more lossy connections
- A few graphical glitches fixed
- Various optimizations to help slower systems. If your framerate is already > 60, probably not noticeable
- Some crash fixes for crigs and after player departures

Thank you sir for the patch..
I just tried it with my AMD main computer and my ASUS T100 10 inch tablet and it is running GREAT on both.
As soon as the 14 Yr old gets ungrounded we will test things more fully, but I was getting Checking Gamestate pretty much immediately and didn't get one while I attacked my base on the Tablet.
Both moved very smoothly and the precision that I saw with the updates from each machine while I watched myself run over myself was real-time with no perceived lag or errors.
Your efforts are very much appreciated and so far... extremely good.
Thanks again and have a good week / weekend.

Oh and ran for about 25 minutes to see if I would get an issue and didn't.

Is there an equivalent to the /gsoff/gson commands for raknet? It does not appear in the /help listing.

Played stock v33 MPI Jungle for about 35 minutes with R1 lag free, then we had a player join, and R1 lost control of control of his buildings (Recy, Fact etc). He tried passing command to me, and I couldn't access the recy, shortly after the game crashed.

I've been on the road all week, so I haven't had an opportunity to test out z33 for very long. Should be getting home tomorrow which will allow me to test this week. With the build being public, there will hopefully be some activity, as opposed to none.

The patch seems stable so far. I had one player say Ctrl + F1 and Ctrl + f10 weren't working but that was due to a hotkey program he had running. He also reported that he couldn't get his crig to build an armory. When I took command, it build the armory without issue. Not sure what happened there.

Blue Banana, try bz2 in Wine now. Resyncs should be better, but may still be present.

These patches are coming out like mad, thanks GSH!

Resyncs should be in the game, otherwise... I don't know. :P
I haven't played any multiplayer games yet.

After working with Zero Angel, I discovered Z33 requires a library that older versions do not.

Libraries you need specified in Wine.

dbghelp (native, builtin)
msvcr90 (native, builtin)

If you don't have msvcr90 specified, you will get a "Bad FPU Control Word" error.

This was the case for me on Linux Mint 16 Matte Edition.

BZ1 also requires msvcr90 enabled for the menus to work properly. Why the change?

GSH's Floating Point change that fixed the resyncs probably relies on that specific file, while older, specifically z32 and older, do not. I know Z32 loaded and z33 did not, until I added that file.

I could select a map, then crash. with a dialog box that said ""Bad FPU Control Word"

I tried a MPI in Linux Mint vs. an available Windows 8.1 machine. I only had one resync within the first 60 seconds. That was the least of my problems though.

While in game, I noticed a combination of the following
1) Keyboard commands not responding
2) Input getting stuck
3) Input being severely lagged, unless this was related to #1

I managed to have quite a few strats using z33. Most all seems well with a HUGE improvement over z30, minimal resyncs and stable.

Only a few bugs I can see that remain in z33:

Intermittent blast/laser hits are occasionally not rendered (nor sound or red flash of being hit), although damage is still done. Most call this the 'double damage' bug, but it's not really double damage per se. The player usually is not aware they were hit because they did not see nor hear the blast/laser, upon second hit they see the blast/laser and the screen flash red, and look at their damage and think it's double damage. This is sporadic and impossible to replicate consistently. I verified this does not happen when someone is lagging, by keeping an eye on the lag-o-meter, pings etc. Not sure what else may be causing this, and was introduced a few patches ago (I'm thinking since z23).

Although happens less often, scavs will get stuck in buildings, usually at a critical time in game when scrap is greatly needed and noticing the scav is stuck.

Piloted ships will often get stuck in a building or upgrade in progress (easy to replicate, just tell con to build or upgrade and move by close, you will stick until building/upgrade is complete).

I'm not sure if it's a Raknet/UPNP/router incompatibility issue, but some people cannot host. Nat negotiation errors upon join, sometimes reattempt join will work, other times it will not, with consistent nat neg errors on join.

And last, which caught my son and I by surprise and made us chuckle: while playing FFA with my son, I was at his base, crashed into his constructor with my isdf scout .. the con FELL OVER on it's back, caught fire and after a few seconds exploded. Although, please leave this one as gives 'quality time' and worth the 20 scrap. ;)

I have an unfounded theory that explosive damage may sometimes being calculated twice. I need to test it out.

That's the ivcons_death3 animation, its not a bug, your seeing it is probably the consequence of some other fix. ;)
