I liked it better when it was just in in-joke said by prospective companions when they first encountered the Doctor.

You could always spot a companion like that; everybody else would just accept him as "The Doctor".

Although his actions kind of betray his intentions, I suppose being wiped from the collective Dalek memory is a good way for him to "lay low" and pretend he's still dead.

I'm also curious as to how they'll work souffle girl into her role as the next companion.
Bound to be an interesting journey there.

I'm imagining that it'll be some timey-wimey thing, and at the end of the adventure, he drops her off on the ship that goes to the Asylum, knowing what happens, similar to River Song and the Library.

Quite possibly, although the whole River thing was quite a bit different.
Guess we'll have to wait and see. :)

The girl in asylum was only a "download" into a Dalek, plenty of scope for the Doctor to rescue her, without her future being predetermined.

Just a download? I was under the impression that she'd been turned into a Dalek mutant.
