It's perfectly possible, but you'll find it incredibly time consuming. If you really must learn both, it'd likely be better to do them one at a time.

Because both take a lot of time and both are fields of expertise that dont stand still. Being able to mod old stuff is one thing, being good at it in general is something completelly different.
If you dont have a life, dont have a job/follow an education, you'd probably still be short on time to become 'truelly' skilled at both. Next to that both fields require a certain feel for the trade, like I cant create models eventhough I can work with the software. Yet I am nowhere near a good programmer, but I seem to have a very good feel for programming AI/AL.

I can do both...
Well 3D + 2D combined is probably about equal to my programming, bit under probably.
Pick one as a career and one as a hobby, that worked for me.
