Each file should go in it's appropriate folder, rulesets have their own folder, and so forth. Just make sure you put the maps in the multiplayer folder not the one that houses the campaign. You should be able to figure it out with some trial and error at worst.

I managed to get in touch with the OP and I sent him the ruleset and the maps, plus the modified english.cfg file and the drpack.exe program needed to properly use it.

I also found that I had the HTML and CSS files along with the images I used to make my web page, so I gave those to him as well.

Can I get that too? :P

Don't mean to bump an old thread, but I never knew about the DR2 ruleset mod. I got a II-game pack a long time ago which introduced me to Battlezone II, Dark Reign II, Heavy Gear II, and Heretic II. Amazing games, if you haven't played the latter 2.

Anyways, I just wanted to know if the 2 downloads linked earlier were all that was available, or if there's more someone is willing to upload somewhere.

I haven't been successful finding the other ruleset mods that used to be readily available. What were you wanting in terms of content? More maps? Different gamemodes, or new units?

HG2 was a great game, when I could get it working.

Here's a few: http://www.freewebs.com/dr2skulky/mods.htm

There's a fix to get the rendering issues on HG2 ironed out using the Application Compatibility Toolkit.

Code: Select all

0. Install Heavy Gear 2.
1. Install the Application Compatibility toolkit (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7352)
2. Open the 32-bit Compatibility Administrator app that comes with the toolkit.
3. On the left pane, under Custom Databases, click on New Database 1.
4. On the taskbar at the top, click on Database > Create New > Application Fix.
5. Enter the name of your fix, the vendor, and under Program File Location browse to your Heavy Gear 2.exe. Click Next.
6. Click Next again. We don't want to install any existing compatibility modes.
7. Now, under Compatibility Fixes, scroll down and tick the box next to DirectXTrimTextureFormats.
8. You can do a Test Run to make sure it works or just click Next.
9. Click Finish.
10. Now right-click New Database 1 on the left and click Install.
11. You should see a confirmation message and you can close the Compatibility Administrator.

You are a god. I've been looking around and I couldn't find a fix for it. I got it running on my Win7 64bit, but that rendering...
Only problem now is that it crashes with half the stuff I try to do. Changing key-map, certain IA maps, etc.
EDIT: Thank you based god.

As for the deal with DR2, I wasn't looking for anything in particular, just something new. It's a great game, but after you play it a couple 1000 times, the same ol' units and maps just get boring.
Does anyone know a fix for the unresponsive units thing? I don't know if it just happens to me, but after a certain amount of units are in-game (I normally set unit limit to 250) the units take longer and longer to respond to my commands. I'll tell them to move to someplace, and they'll start moving a minute later.

I downloaded that ruleset or whatever posted earlier in this thread. It's pretty great, I just need to go through and fix the unit names since I don't feel like looking for the download that has it set.

You'd have to pm Coyote Seven for a newer version, I must of found the old one. I might have some of those multi maps that are custom missions in my mediafire. Otherwise you're limited to maps, U.I. mods, and rulesets.

EDIT: Here's a map pack, split into four parts. I have no clue what maps are in this, so beware some might be broke.

No problem, let me know if those work out for you. If any maps or mods are broken just pm me, and I'll remove them and upload a fixed zip.

Whenever I get a external hard drive, I'm going to start archiving what old game content I can. No sense in letting more content get lost to time, or more accurately to abandoned web domains.

Okay, so I have no idea how to rename the units so they aren't "jda.unit.etc" or whatever.

What exactly is the DR2 version that was in the repository?

I just discovered my old DR2 page is kinda sorta archived on the Wayback Machine...

https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://co ... a.com/dr2/*

Including the RAR files? You could try right-clicking those links to save them and see if you can unpack them?

And sorry for yet another necro post. Figured there might be some people here still curious.

You'll find the official DR2 site is still there too: http://web.archive.org/web/200202022137 ... /index.htm. I've just had a brief look through and it seems mostly complete; I may have to copy it out locally alongside the bzii site. (Fun fact: it appears Dark Reign II introduced a gamemode that was remarkably similar to the MOBAs of today three years before the release of DOTA, which is widely regarded as the "first" MOBA.)

Bits of the Activision dr2 site are there as well: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www ... ames/dr2/*
