With Gorilla Glass, I've found screen protectors are not really necessary. Plus it's a shame to cover the wonderful slick surface.

I was pretty hard on my first phone.... and not all smartphones have gorilla glass (HTC still seems to prefer plastic, for example).
Besides, the coating on the back of the phone alone is worth it - makes it far less slippery.
