I had the "testing mindset" for about 8 months with BZ1.5. I admit I didn't contribute to the testing as much as I should have. Mostly because I was satisfied with BZE.
I had, and still have, the attitude that BZE offers tons more content. If BZE was like the old BZ1.8, I'm sure I would have contributed more to testing 1.5, in the pursuit of the stock game..
BUT BZE
has the stock game.
That's the critical difference. AND it fixes or subdues many of the notorious bugs, such as the timer bug, the east-west bug, and several others that most players would not even notice unless they played daily, adds tons of BZ2-ish maps and ships, adds Dx9 support, adds filters to the setup screen, adds audio to the lobby. . .I could go on, but it's really a waste of time describing them all since there's noway anyone cares at this point if they haven't already tried it. I've also wondered several times over the years if BZE didn't hurt itself with some. . .well. . .let's say,
was unconsciously too hard on their intellect.
If we're talking online play, there's simply no comparison. Those that choose BZ1.5 because they were told it's "more pure" has been fed so much kool-aid over the years, they have no clue which end is up. But that's only the fault of the flock, so I don't entirely fault the kids who play only 1.5. But let me be honest. BZ1.5 does indeed offer one strong attribute over BZE, and that's the ability to play the SP.

grumping? Ken is one of "the most gosh darn nicest" guys i've ever come across and has an open mind. heck, just knowing that he was able to talk with *gulp*

That's all BFT/Psychotic Rhino ever does is
grump. BZ 1.5 is a patch that has Dx9 support, timer bugfix, east-west bugfix, improved AI, better antihacking measures, etc. As for BZ2 content, none of that has a place in BZ1, so nobody wants that. BzE does not contain the stock game, seeing as it's a mod and it's missing the entire single player campaign.
Besides, the BzE online community is non-existent.
This is Battlezone 1.5 being played on what you refer to as "Spock's Server" (battlezone1.net):
At the same time, this is BzE (not) being played on 911.alink.bz911.net:
These screenshots were taken just a few minutes ago. All those players and rooms in BzE are the same person and there are no games. "2 bad so sad". BzE is actually empty. It seems to me Rhino is just giving us all grief because no one is there to play BzE with him. I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.

Couple things: show us a list of unique connections, those red ones might just be banned users which you pride yourselves on, and new features in a 12 year old game? GOD FORBID. Bz2 is about to get a huge heap of bz1 assets through a mod (yes all you doubters this is actually, finally happening) and I don't see anyone on this side complaining.
"Missing" single player.....there's a word for you- "law"
Which, by the way, was caught on you guys having a little fun on tropes, you know who you were and what you did and were reported. Expect a nasty email.

Yes, this is classic flock nonsense. He knows why, we know why.
But two other humorous points. I wasn't quite sure what would flush spork from his daily lurk. Guess this was it.
Also. . .
"As for BZ2 content, none of that has a place in BZ1, so nobody wants that." Basically the entire philosophy by the admins of the flock server wrapped up in one sentence.
Translation:
"We will decide what you like... or a ban if you don't." As as we've seen with 1.5, that is indeed what was done. But you can add the intrigue of notorious hacks having inside involvement. Awesome!

They're all the same IP. Three had 100 loss and one had a ping. I don't know why that is, but it's not important anyway because BzE is just full of idle clones all day.
As for frequent 1.5 updates, ask Ken, he's the one rolling out builds all the time.

Ken's a nice guy, he's constantly supporting BZ with his precious free time. Psychotic Rhino needs to take a chill pill and quit complaining, and stop being so ungrateful. Movable window in BzE? ALT + ENTER fullscreen/window toggle in BzE? Maybe Psychotic Rhino should show some gratitude since Ken programmed all those enhancements and they showed up in BZ 1.5 before they were added to BzE. In fact, ALT + ENTER toggle was my suggestion.

I agree, Spock and his followers tried to boycott Ken once to force him to Spock's will but Spock has no leverage on Ken, I believe Ken stated that would bookend the development.

Spork you know very well that is tomcat, a former member of your group, he still behaves like you guys. I doubt anyone likes him making all those rooms but it's a free server and kids will be kids.

Did Spock ban the guy after making a post he didn't like?

I realize he's not the brightest kid, but he's certainly aware we know his history, and how we believe he was a sizable contributor to the demise of the game.
So I'm not sure why he posts here, or at the BZC, other than to prove to his preceptors he's fighting the good fight in the guise of a troll. Other than that aspect of his psychology, his posts are just shy of meaningless to me.

Ironically, I didn't know it was a boycott until the boycott ended. I just thought people were mad and didn't feel like posting in the 1.5 forum for a while.

As for BZ 1.5 versus BZE, I think they're meant to serve different purposes.
1.5 was meant to be a drop-in replacement for 1.4 and as such I tried to avoid changing game design and content too much. AI enhancements happened to be a case where a feature with wide-ranging effects ended up working out okay but produced a lot of breakage along the way (e.g. pathing). Now that 1.5 has become the new baseline, I can try more experimental things in followup builds. I doubt the changes will ever be as wide-ranging as BZ2 1.3.
My impression is that BZE is meant to be--as its name implies--an expansion of BZ that adds a lot of original content. Some players like that and some players don't, obviously.

The players that don't, did until they couldn't control everything about it and where it would be played. (in Spocks world you're told you're either with him or against him, which lead to his propaganda war)

The rest are just kool aide drinkers because they never played it but have soo much to talk about.
