Patches are legal.

It's not illegal to remove a CD check, therefore no license is needed.

Patches fix bugs. That is quite literally the *only* defining factor.

So long as it doesn't involve any sort of encryption or it was done before the DMCA.

So, the next question is what is Apollo going to pull out his ass next. I can understand the reason for so doggedly wanting to call 1.5 a mod, but the reason doesn't justify the lengths gone to.

The cd check is part of the copyright protection, removing it makes it warez thus illegal but considering how the source was obtained, the executable is illegal for that alone.

I graduated Drexel University's College of Engineering magna cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. I have worked 2 developer jobs so far, the first in the defense industry and the second where I am now in, what is it, pharmaceuticals? Something like that.

Find and cite a law that says, in no uncertain terms, that removing a CD-check makes 1.5 specifically not a patch.
